The current Sony exclusives never really got me going, I usually ended up trading in those exclusives in at my local BT games anyway.
I found the MS exclusives had more replay value and even online : Halo Campaign / Gears online with a couple of my friends.
- Granddad of war was pretty, played it once and then traded it in
- Uncharted was pretty but again wasted 1k for a game I played once
- Souls franchise was never appealing to me, I prefer more western RPG's
Spider man was the only one I played a few times to get all those suit's and unlocks, which I sold to a friend with a PS4 pro
I played the first Halo and Gears on PC, but grew bored with them very quickly. I think I played less than 4 hours of each.
I play 99.9% of games only once, but I did end up getting the platinum in God of War. The only game for which I did. God of War 3 I played twice. I didn't mean to, it just happened.
God of War Ascension was meh, with the "different" weapons just applying different effects. I think I stopped around half way through.
The Uncharted games are perfect for that single playthrough of about 30 hours. I think they offer decent value at R1000, considering I really enjoy those 30 hours. If like me you want to play a fully patched game and get it a year or so later, the R450 price is even better
When you are a 40 year old gamer, time is more of a limiting factor than money. I like my games relatively short and perfectly paced, and don't care for open worlds full of busywork, grinding, collectables and unlocks.
GoW was somehow the exception, and I actually enjoyed running that stupid gauntlet to get all the unlocks to beat that final Valkyrie. Then I just put in an extra hour with a walkthrough to get the stupid ravens, as I was so close to the platinum.
Good western RPGs are also great, but the Bethesda games have never really grabbed me. I played all the ES games from Daggerfall onward, but the first one that kinda grabbed me was Skyrim, but stopped playing before finishing. That enemy scaling BS put me off the game completely. Once you get glass armour or whatever, every common thief in the game has this legendary, super rare armour.
Fallout 3 left a bitter taste in my mouth. I was so looking forward to Fallout 3, and they gave us that POS Elder Scrolls reskin. I made it to the radio station before the boredom overwhelmed me and I just couldn't continue any more.
Wasteland 2 & 3, D:OS2 and Witcher 3 are more my type of great western RPG. Even Pillars of Eternity was pretty good, and I still need to give the second one a go.
