Talking about this bots thing, I read an article a couple of weeks ago. Where the retailers are in two minds about the consoles being snapped up by scalpers. The thinking being, well, we do want to look after the average buyer, BUT, does it really impact us if we sell to legitimate buyers.

My thinking - you have to be completely dumbass retailers to not realise that if the scalpers scalp the FOMO buyers, they will just have less money to spend on games and accessories that you still want to sell, to make some profit.

@AlphaJohn

Edit: let me highlight the pertinent sentence.

I get it you only see your point and belive your view cause I addressed
There is a difference between wishful thinking and guaranteed income for example, retailer wont see a cent on game sales from Digital editions.

I would even go so far as saying future sales leading from a console sale falls under broken window fallacy as the client can just as easy go and buy accessories or games for that matter at a competing store.

I still think government should play a role, same as what they do with ticket scalpers. Cause there is not enough incentive for a shop keeper to pay developers to change or even redesign web-front to prevent scalping.

and also add, those consoles do not vanish into thin air... when they do get sold even if its a year from now the buyers still gonna pick up accessories... just not immediately.

Edit: but seeing as we wont see eye to eye on the subject I'll just go you will, as it make no diff to me who does what and I don't really care about it that much to continue on this subject.

And I addressed your "broken window fallacy" a few posts ago? Eish.

Future support for PS4 has nothing to do with selling PS4's. They have 100mil+ consoles out there that can play games. So if you a game developer and want to make money out a game, will you make it so only 10mil potential new gen gamers will buy it or 100mil?
Even if Ps5 is at 40-50mil sales, you still sit with huge numbers PS4 in the market that you can make money from

Also note: Its only the PS4 Pro that they stopped making.. same path Microsoft followed in shelving Xbox One X.

Guess its cause they tend to blur the line when it comes to pricing vs the next gen. I mean $399 for PS4 Pro vs PS5 DE kinda makes it hard to decide for potential new customers.

Personally think that the previous gen consoles are dead in the water - price is too close to the next gen and performance too far behind.

I agree. In terms off selling the older gen consoles now. However, still supporting 114 million consoles out there (in PS4 terms), is a no-brainer.

Yes I think the Pro just cost to much to make and they cant drop price to much. However last year 2019 you could get Ps4 slim with game bundle for $199 so they could probably drop prices close to that level and keep selling another few mil PS4"s

Maybe from the first party studios.

The others would have learnt from the
Cyberpunk fiasco and would rather target 10 million customers and growing, than chase 114 million and bear any reputational damage...

I wonder if their version of Game Pass will come to the PS4. People are expecting it launch in 2 years time and by that time there should still be at least 50 million (more likely 70 to 80 million) active PS4/Pro users

So your theory is based on 1 game?
How many other games came out this year? Sure most of them can run on a PS4
Cyberpunk took 9 years to make, so by the time the next "cyberpunk" is here we will have Ps6 and you will have your next, one game theory that the Ps5 is obsolete.

So after much deliberation I picked up a Series S today. Lots of factors in my decision, including TV set up, holidays, lockdown, skipped last gen but want to play the games etc. I'm planning on getting a ps5 next year when they are in stock, and the S will then go on the older TV. That's the plan at least.

Let me understand this - you are basically saying they should have ignored 114 million (PS) consoles in an attempt to target 10 million consoles. By the 10 million, I am guessing you mean both of the new generation consoles?

As an accountant, this does not compute.

Anyway, apparently this game has been at least about 6 years in the making. Which means at least 4 of those years were developing for last gen consoles.

They have stuffed up, obviously.

Game was supposed to be released before the new consoles were even out wtf argument is "should have ignored the old consoles"

Y'all play Read Dead 2 on PS4? Blows away most open world games on even the highest end PCs.

Go back further to Last of Us on PS3, remember that game that released at the end of the PS3's life that looked, played and performed beautifully?

The problem with the scalpers is that Sony isn't getting financially hurt by them because most of the people getting the PS5 are currently PS4 owners and are already paying/paid for their PS Plus subscription and there are next no PS5 exclusive games out. They are getting the money from the sales

If anything allowing scalpers buy up all their consoles is a PR win for them. Sucks for the PS gamer but Sony can't keep doing this trickle strategy would out alienating their customer base for much longer .

Huh? WTF are you going on about?

Looks like another strange post from the supposedly impartial Poly.
