PSVR2 production halted as unsold backlog piles up

Sony Group Corp. has paused production of its PSVR2 headset until it clears a backlog of unsold units, according to people familiar with its plans, adding to doubts about the appeal of virtual reality gadgets.

Sales of the $550 wearable accessory to the PlayStation 5 have slowed progressively since its launch and stocks of the device are building up, according to the people, who asked not to be named as the information is not public.

In my opinion, the issue with the PSVR2 is 2x things.
1. Very high cost - it's just about the same price as a new PS5.
2. Not a lot of good quality games supported - I see no movement in the PS VR space for new games.
I was interested in the PSVR2 but upon checking what I can actually play and new titles coming out... it would have been a very costly gadget with limited use. At that point I was only really interested in playing GT7 with it... I bet you'll get the PSVR2 for around 5K next year as I dont see Sony investing heavily into game development. They're probably deep into developing the PS6 and PSVR3 already.

Not interested unless Sony allows PC compatibility which they could do but will never happen

Sounds like it will be limited to specific Sony approved games but I'm happy to be wrong

My guess is some kind of streaming (like Apple VR does with xbox cloud), which would be OK, but pretty much puts it in competition with the Quest 3, which it doesn't win outright by the looks of it.

The alternative is that you would need additional hardware, as there isn't a well-supported solution on the PC which outputs display and takes input in a single USB-C port. There's thunderbolt, but how many desktop PCs make use of it?
That way it would at least be a direct solution and not a streaming solution and could give it the edge.
