Hi all,

Please mods, don't merge this one with the original 6.7kb/s sticky thread. This is to verify if the BS maintenance actually made a difference.

For me it did:

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

* Download time: 4.891 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 834.2 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 102.2 (kiloBytes/second)

Anybody still getting those silly 6.8kb/s speeds?

TCP/Web100 Network Diagnostic Tool v5.3.3e
click START to begin
Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done
running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 46.40Kb/s
running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 157.85kb/s
Your PC is connected to a Cable/DSL modem
Information: Other network traffic is congesting the link
Information: The receive buffer should be 255.99 Kbytes to maximize throughput

Not what it should be, but it's very up and down.

At least not as bad as it was

Rustic, would you mind doing a Telkom speed test, so we can compare apples with apples?

Sure no Problem

Here you go, did it twice for comparison :D

Results:
Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:
· Download time: 15.859 seconds
· Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
· Estimated line speed: 257.3 (kilobits/second)
· Estimated line speed: 31.5 (kiloBytes/second
Results:
Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:
· Download time: 14.25 seconds
· Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
· Estimated line speed: 286.3 (kilobits/second)
· Estimated line speed: 35.1 (kiloBytes/se

I've noticed a severe deterioration in download speed since this morning at 07:00 until now, got 1000+ kbps early, down to +- 300 - 500 kbps now. Will watch over a longer term.

And disconnect / reconnect gives new IP and similar speeds...

Got really really bad speed this morning. Reconnected got new ip and full speed. Like jmn I have also noticed full speed this morning drop to one third of normal now. I'm too scared to disconnect....slow speed might accompany a new ip.

So did the maintenance help. I think not.

P0tenc: I did a manual disconnect / reconnect and got a system disconnect / reconnect later, still fine.
It really seems like there is a big improvement, but will watch carefully.

But what was wrong that took them time to sort it out
With WBS the customer is always wrong, and the customer never experiences bad speeds, and there is no problem until the customers get the press/media to investigate...:(

Since last week I've been having **** speeds I used to get 1Mbit/sec but apparently that's now a thing of the past!

your download speed is 610kbps
your upload speed is 79.5kbps

I did the above test with InternetFrog... my speeds are slowly decreasing.

Basestation contention is the most likely cause!

I'm getting roughly 50% of the speed, that I get in the evenings, during office hours.

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

* Download time: 10.705 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 381.1 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 46.7 (kiloBytes/second)

The problem is not fixed! This morning I had to connect 4 times before getting ok speed (all prior attempts yielded very slow connections). Yet again the same as yesterday I experience speed decrease as the day goes on.

Your line speed is approximately 160.3 Kbps or 19.6 kBytes/sec :eek:

I use to get FULL speed before the 6th so it's not a contention issue on my base station. 192kbps ADSL is faster than this :eek:
