He has no such powers.

She needs to be found guilty of misconduct, incapacity or incompetence by a portfolio committee, followed by the adoption of a resolution by two-thirds of the National Assembly to remove her.
In other words she's right. It needs to be a miracle.

No you're missing the point. It stops the president willy nilly removing the pp if he or his cabal are under investigation which is a good thing. Checks & balances...

Oh I know thats the point. But the people responsible for picking or choosing is still in cahoots with the president/party so checks and balances goes out of the window if the same interests is still being catered for.

If the ANC majority decide someone should stay or go no other party can prevent them from doing it. They have the majority and a bunch of other party boot lickers who will just go with the ANC decisions.

"The Public Protector is appointed by the president."

So much for checks and balances...

The president does not select the pp (just like with judges), candidates are shortlisted, interviewed, voted on etc and the president rubber stamps it. Those are checks and balances.

The pp's powers are not absolute as a court can set the pp's findings aside as we have seen happen already, those are further checks and balances.

They need a 60% majority vote, every party but the da was in favour of this candidate. The pp's powers are not absolute as a court can set the pp's findings aside as we have seen happen already, those are further checks and balances.

To be honest I would prefer it if the selection process & interviews were left up to the JSC as with judges as they are more competent to assess legal competence than politicians are.

What a difference.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thuli_Madonsela
Thulisile Nomkhosi "Thuli" Madonsela (born 28 September 1962)[7][8] is a South African advocate and Professor of law, holding a chair in social justice at Stellenbosch University since January 2018[9]. She served as the Public Protector of South Africa from 19 October 2009 to 14 October 2016. In 1996, she helped draft the final constitution of South Africa promulgated by then President Nelson Mandela.

Madonsela was appointed Public Protector by President Jacob Zuma for a non-renewable seven-year term commencing 19 October 2009

In 2012, she investigated "kickbacks" received by Julius Malema in the context of traffic department contracts given to external contractor On-Point Engineering

This PP is undermining the validity and professionalism of the office. From refusing to comment on leaked documents regarding BOSASA to airing her laundry on social media and at the Sheriff Society. SA does have a leadership crisis indeed.

Parliament must remove her, CR has no legal authority to instruct parliament. He too is accountable to parliament, not the other way round
Nice to see you in this thread. Enjoy the South African political and resulting, economical situation. #LiveWithIt
