Because if she proves that her recommendations are legally binding the ANC will have a harder time ignoring her?

It is important that this issue is clarified.

There is no point to having a public protector with no powers.

The ANC is wasting public funds by ignoring the PP recommendations and reports - which the court by the way has told them to do - and through a proxy are litigating on this issue on appeal

This will come back to bite the ANC.
As soon as they prove that the PP is toothless, then they will need her to investigate one of their enemies, but she won't be able to do anything.

So who funded the legal costs when Zuma unnecessarily fought for years to block the release of the infamous spy tapes? I wonder if Stone Sizani can spell hypocrite.

The problem is that the entire crusade of the ANC here is based on ignoring what the court actually said. The PPs office is not appealing because the court said "bad PP you are overstepping your powers" but rather because in the process of deciding a legal dispute to which the PP was not a party made a finding as to the law which affects that office - a finding which one of the parties will be appealing in any event so in actual fact entering suit represents AIDING the court which the PP like all constitutional structures is supposed to do. The whole problem of wasted expenditure will come in if the government drags litigation.

But this is an acceptable waste of money ?

Majavu said if his client's application for the leave to appeal was denied he would take it to the Supreme Court of Appeal, and if it failed there to the Constitutional Court.

Public protector wasting money on SABC court judgment: ANC

I am glad the ANC made the connection between protracted litigation and wasting money.

It's a pity they woke up to this on the wrong issue

The ANC doesn't need the public protector for that...they seem quite adapt at setting up various investigation bodies to suit their needs.
