Purchasing a car from another province/city - where to start?

Funnily enough, I was looking for advice on buying a car in a different province again, and guess what pops up...this thread :ROFL:

I might fly up this time around, if I can't find a good example of what I am looking for locally. In hindsight, I am not regretting that I went for the i30 instead of the Fokkus - it's been brilliant up until recently, even despite the spate of issues I've been having lately. I looked at my vehicle logs, and I've spent around R20k on it since purchase, which includes the prices of all the services, parts and tyres in the last 76 months and 120'000km. Fuelly says I have spent around R126'000 in fuel on it, which is about equal to what I paid for it plus the abovementioned maintenance and service items:
