Ok cool. Let's also remove any roads, buildings, transport infrastructure and any other signs of technological advancement.

Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa says the ANC-led government will push to ensure that all public spaces named after colonial and apartheid masterminds, including towns, are changed if reconciliation is to be achieved in the country. On Sunday, the governing party presented its manifesto through its subcommittee on social cohesion and nation-building.

“We cannot have public spaces named after those people. That would not be reconciliation. It would be capitulation." ...

You do know the popular argument is that they were the labour behind these achievements, hence they made it.

Those that can't do, teach.
Those that can't build, rename.

We should let them be, poor knobs are just practicing for the final renaming to Mandarin anyway..

So we could have neutral names? Oh wait no it will probably be named after a "struggle" hero.
What is a neutral name?

They already started renaming things, without process, yonks ago. In my town, our beach has been called Melk Bay/Melkbaai, probably since the day Bartolomeu Dias took a U-turn in False Bay, but the municipality have started labelling it and naming it Strand Beach and I have already heard the reasoning behind that back in 2008/9 already. Now that they are busy broadening the road going in out the Strand suburb, they also removed any and all ‘Melk Bay’ tourism road signage.

Knowing the reasoning, relabelling and renaming it to Strand Beach is probably neutral, but then melk, other than being the colour white, have nothing to do with white people.

Ironic, that the CoCT is still keeping both beaches, which is the same beach, active on their website,

https://www.capetown.gov.za/Family ...ecreational-facilities/Beaches/Melkbaai-Beach

https://www.capetown.gov.za/Explore...-recreational-facilities/Beaches/strand-beach

This is a strange change, the way they are going about the change is stop people remembering it as Melk Bay. Old inhabitants leave, new inhabitants come in, why the need to make a process when you only need to start calling it by another name?

Does people understand that it cost money?
Who cares what the shyt is called. The renaming just means you will not have a house in your life time.
OR free education for your kids
Affordable health care.

Cut your nose to spite your face please.

What is this, the 50+ time that this has been uttered.? At best two things get renamed, the usual - build you own **** and name it, waste of money arguments are thrown around from the one side. Than...all gets packed away, till the next round of ...what does our polling say,...what issue/s has the best traction...for this election cycle. Either rename everything, or don't get pulled into such emotive, looped zero sum argument.

Next thing they'll be renaming Jan Smuts Airport.
How about JHB International, the we keep it neutral and never have to change it again ...

Oh wait!

https://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/airport-name-change-at-point-of-no-return-284893
It would not be the airport's first name change. It was known as Jan Smuts airport until 1994 when it was changed to Johannesburg International airport to reflect the then government's decision to have neutral names for the country's airports.

https://www.iol.co.za/news/politics/joburg-airport-name-change-has-r3m-price-tag-297839
It started its life as Jan Smuts International Airport (explaining the airport's ICAO code, FAJS) but was renamed in 1994 when the ANC government implemented a national policy of not naming airports after politicians.
So 3m wasted. Now let's roll out the wastage nationally.

Let's also cause some more banana republic embarrassment like when they changed "Koningin Wilhelmina" in Pta:

Let's rather re-write history Wakanda style.
