What is a neutral name?So we could have neutral names? Oh wait no it will probably be named after a "struggle" hero.
How about JHB International, the we keep it neutral and never have to change it again ...Next thing they'll be renaming Jan Smuts Airport.
It would not be the airport's first name change. It was known as Jan Smuts airport until 1994 when it was changed to Johannesburg International airport to reflect the then government's decision to have neutral names for the country's airports.
So 3m wasted. Now let's roll out the wastage nationally.It started its life as Jan Smuts International Airport (explaining the airport's ICAO code, FAJS) but was renamed in 1994 when the ANC government implemented a national policy of not naming airports after politicians.
