PVC fitting joints - why no plain ones?

Hi all,

I'm in need of some of the following 20mm (3/4") PVC conduit joints, and for the life of me cannot seem to source retail other than going to manufacturers (who sell in bulk). All the ones in the normal hardware stores have the inspection holes/covers...
These seem plentiful in the USA, Europe and East, but it will cost me an arm and two legs to get approx 20 of each to SA...

Any ideas on where I can source these in SA - online or retail shop?

Hi all,

That's because these things are used for electrical usage in SA mainly and having them as default with inspection covers makes more sense when tracking faults and running wiring through piping.

What do you want to use it for exactly?Maybe we can suggest suitable alternatives?

I'm guessing you are building some sort of frame instead of doing plumbing with these?

Good idea,however depending on what he wants to do with it exactly the cost and strength of aluminum might be overkill.

The Tee and Elbow are for electrical work, need to re-run some house to boundary wall underground conduits that had the inspection caps (leaked and conduit filled with water - previous owner installed apparently...) - the reason for the specific 90 degrees is that there are established trees with root systems that don't allow me to use the gentler curve 90's. The Tees will be used for running off the main conduit where needed - again, the current Tees have inspection caps and they also leaked. I'm happy to not have inspection caps or mess around with sealing them for underground laying, would rather re-pull the cables if and when the time comes for this in future.

There's a building place where Ferrarias used to be on Beyers Naude, close to the Honeydew Police station, they might have it? Cannot remember the name now :-(. Also Cashbuild in Northriding?

Could you not use something like this....

Its slightly larger than the 90degree you're looking for, but it is better for electrical cable

Thanks ToxicBunny - I tried one of those, but there's not enough space to maneuver the pipe/bend due to the tree roots in the location - these would have been ideal, but unfortunately not do-able. The only way I can see it working is with the tighter 90 degree bend joint.

They seem to have tried that before, but water still seeped in - I just thought that if there was minimal jointing exposure there would be lesser chance of water/moisture penetration

They couldn't have used PVC weld properly if water seeped in.... PVC weld chemically bonds 2 pieces of PVC...
