Qatar to buy stake in unnamed airline in southern Africa

Qatar Airways is set to invest in an unidentified airline based in southern Africa in the coming weeks as it looks to expand its footprint in the continent.

"We are in the final stage of an equity investment in an airline in the southern part of Africa," Chief Executive Officer Badr Al-Meer said at the Qatar Economic Forum on Wednesday.

Probably Botswana.

:ROFL: Botswana has the lowest air traffic demand on the Southern African continent. No one flies there... A pointless investment..

Qatar are looking for an air traffic hub - an air traffic corridor, so it has to be SA - it's either SAA or Airlink according to this article;

Al Meer stopped short of revealing which airline Qatar Airways is investing in, though pointed out that there are only two or three airlines in Southern Africa that would be considered, and it should be easy to guess from there.

I could be missing something, but it seems like there are only two potential airlines that this could refer to — either South African Airways or Airlink. There aren’t any other major airlines in the region.
