A bit late on this topic but I would have thought since its a major international event they would be more lenient towards sexual orientation. This is from 30 June so maybe they have or will relax their stance up until the end of the WC.

On the other hand though, when in Rome . . . .
I almost posted this on a Whatsapp Group
Glad I checked

There was something like 17mil ticket requests. Even Dubai is planning for influx of people, Qatar just doesn't have the space for everyone.

I have already seen news of multiple fan parks around Dubai.

I rate it's going to be insane.

Oh it will be insane without a doubt and a party for most people so long as Qatar doesn't try enforce all of its backwards retarded rules.

My guess is that they will have "exclusion" zones where their rules don't apply but some fans are going to transgress the rules outside of those zones and then it will be a shyteshow.

That's why we still have so many issues in the world, because people, for the most part, accept the status quo, so long as they aren't affected... :(

My problem is more with FIFA than Qatar, CAF understood the agreement they were entering and have basically promoted their own event as a sanctum knowing the rules. Hence, I asked those two questions. CAF/FIFA created this environment.

I would surprised if they even have enough police to be able to enforce any of the rules, they just have to let what happens happen.

This is all Pre show hype to try get in line people will learn fast they can push boundaries.

Can already see few unlucky ones will be used as examples in the media.

All drinking will happen outside of stadiums not allowed inside. Lol cost of beer will be crazy expensive

Oh well. Like someone said, "their house their rules."
In reality I doubt they'll be arresting people unless people actually throw it in their face.
Technically they share the house with FIFA until the end of the competition. I blame Sep Blatter and his minions for this.

Even the outside the stadium stuff will be strictly controlled apparently, and limited to certain times in public places that are pre-defined.. Also saw mention of beer being around 10GBP

It's always like that you can only drink in certain places mostly Hotel bars so that's nothing new.

10GBP would be normal price I rate people are going to get gauged for worse. Prob in the 12 -15 price range but that's just a guess.

I think the reference to pre-defined places is more like "wet zones" so outside of the normal hotel bars and such... more like fan parks type of thing.

And yeah I agree booze is gonna be **** expensive, I wouldn't even be surprised to see 20GBP for a beer.

I think it would be more for a form of protest.
Ppl need to settle their schit down, including my tribe.
As a guest in a nation or even a neighbour's house, one complies with the host.
If you choose to go somewhere, accept their choices when entering.
If you choose to protest - do it from home, do it via the UN - if for no other reason but your own safety.

But from the article itself :
According to some reports citing unrealistic citations, the country allegedly threatened to give 11 years in prison to people who waved the LGBTQ flag in public.

However, there is actually no official source informing the public about this action. That is, we can dismiss it as fake news. FIFA has confirmed that any colored flag will be allowed inside the country's stadiums.

I agree.
Change can only happen if there is enough people to bring it forth.
If you go and enjoy the world cup, in a way, you are saying you are okay with their values, the treatment of the workers who built those stadiums, and all the other human rights violations they are guilty of.
The best form of protest is still not to go to or support this world cup in any way.

I'm going to be giving the Soccer World Cup a miss this time around - Russia was bad enough but the level of corruption that resulted in Qatar with it's backward approach to women's rights, foreign nationals' rights and people's choice of sexual orientation is just too much.

Sportswashing their way to credibility via PSG and now the World Cup - next we'll see the WC held in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and Saudi Arabia.

A pox on them.

*spits

Edit: changed Abu Dhabi to UAE for accuracy
