This crime-fighting agency was created by Napoleon's great nephew. Who was he and what agency did he create?

Yep.... no.... yep !
Exactly right with not a mention of Egypt :giggle:.

Sudan has between 200 to 255 known pyramids, compared to Egypt’s 138, and no, they weren’t created by ancient Egyptians who might have wandered further south.

Instead, the pyramids in Sudan were built by members of the Kingdom of Kush, an ancient civilisation that ruled areas along the Nile River from 1070 BC to 350 AD.

While the Kushites started building pyramids about 500 years after the Egyptians were over them, both cultures used them to entomb their dead.

Good try but no.

Is it a wombat?
It is indeed.

It is quite interesting. Wombats are the only animal to produce cubic poop, and until recent no-one really knew how.

In typical Aussie fashion, they of course had their theories:

Wombat poo is cube shaped so they can mark their territory with it but no one knows how they make their poo square
but research has shown that there are two factors - the dry food that wombats eat and that wombats have two less elastic grooves in their intestines which apparently shape the poop. When wombats eat a more moisture rich diet their poop is less cubed. Precisely how the grooves work to form the cubes is still unknown.

I think this research was also the recipient of a recent IgNobel prize, which is probably why I knew this.

Problem is, now I need to think of another question

This European leader, elected at a tumultuous time in his country's history, was the first to propose a body similar to the European Union, which would have allied European nations against external enemies.

Spoiler alert: it didn't work. This early attempt at peaceful unity was ultimately to come to naught, as the concept frightened his European neighbors so much that they went to war against him, and his tenure as leader ended with his death amidst conflict on nearly every side.

It was only much later that leaders of European nations saw sense in the idea of a Union between them.

Are you talking about The Europäische Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft being a post-war plan for a European Union by Nazi Germany which would make the leader Hitler.

No. Actually, that does kind of fit the clues that I gave, which is quite interesting. If this was the actual QI you'd get a few points for this answer.

But the first such proposal was much earlier. As another hint, this elected King (that should already narrow it down quite substantially) was also something of a religious heretic, and excommunicated by the pope of the time.

I also thought it was the Tsar :unsure:

What about Henry IV ? - Holy Roman emperor and king of Germany from 1056 to 1106

Henry attempted, initially, to reassert his father's old imperial rights throughout the empire and also to build up a new, strong imperial domain in Saxony. This led to serious uprisings in 1073 in which Saxons and southern German nobles combined against him.

By 1075 he had suppressed these revolts, only to begin a quarrel with Pope Gregory V11 over the imperial right to appoint or invest churchmen with their offices. Gregory and Church reformers claimed that neither rulers nor any other laymen could exercise this right—despite long precedent. Angry at Gregory's opposition to his appointing an archbishop of Milan, in 1076 Henry hastily summoned a council of German bishops who declared Pope Gregory deposed.

Gregory answered by declaring Emperor Henry excommunicated and suspended from office.
