Qualcomm unveils new processor for mid-range smartphones

Qualcomm has launched a new smartphone processor - the Snapdragon 678 - for mid-range smartphones.

This chip is the successor to 2018's Snapdragon 675, which is used in popular smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy A70, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro, and Vivo U20.

Despite the fact that it arrives two years after its predecessor, the Snapdragon 678 features minimal improvements, and uses the same CPU and GPU.

This is rather pointless and marketing BS just so they can ask more money for more or less the same thing with maybe the exception of the modem. Would be surprised if there is more then 15% speed increase overall. Unisoc Tiger 618 has it beat and likely costs around half the price this chip costs, wouldn't be surprised if both the mediatek P70 and P60 gives it a good kicking.

They have essentially taken a chip which is about entry level now 3 years later to rebrand as a midrange chip, wth are they thinking ?

And then everyone wonders why everyone is fauning over Apple and their M1 chip ( not to forget their A class silicon).

I am definitely not an Apple Fanboi , and I don't believe the Company really innovates besides stealing ideas from others and then claiming as their own for the most part .

Having said that my tech award of the year would go to them for their first PC class chipq and everything around it. What a phenomenal achievement on round 1.

Qualcomm and others should be very afraid. It would be great if Apple actually licensed/sold their processors to others . How many kajillions would they make? I would have no qualms buying my next android phone with Apple silicon in it
