Quality TV unit / plasma stand in Cape Town

I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

I’m looking for a quality TV stand/plasma unit. I like the Coricraft chunky and minimal wood look, but using gloss whites and light wood colours.

But their prices are insane for large 2.5m+ ones. And I see plenty of carpenters seemingly from Zim and Malawi advertising similar ones on Marketplace. Presumably using pine and not MDF, etc.

Maybe they can use pine for the main carcass and higher quality no knot wood for the top table, stained in a light or ash oak, etc.

But who to trust? How to find the best in the business building these sorts of furniture pieces to a high standard, yet affordable price?

Perhaps you’ve found a gem. I would be grateful if you could please PM me any leads.

And any general discussion here around TV units of similar style would be welcomed!

Don’t have the time or inclination. Will never be high quality with soft and sturdy drawer rollers etc. They scrapped woodwork when I was in Grade 9 so I only got to making dovetail joints and trays. :p

there is also a coricraft factory shop if you in cpt

but they only like 20-40% off the original price and some have dents and scratches

there is also a @home factory shop next to it in cpt

I had such a hard time finding something when I was looking. Eventually got somebody to build exactly what I wanted and was also much cheaper and is superbly built and painted.

Unfortunately the guy that built it for me is no longer in the country.

If you want high quality look at Lanark. They use genuine wood and not this cheap ply-board stuff with a veneer on it (that Coricraft use, last time I looked).

It's not cheap, but you get quality.

Darn. Wonder if they could recommend someone? :p

I’ve found someone seemingly decent on Marketplace and they communicate quite well and have obliged my questions and designs with no issue. At this point all I can really do is tell them if it’s not up to standard I won’t be paying...

Would love to find personal recommendations.

Thus far this is the type of design I’m after mixing styles of the previous examples I posted. Probably with fewer drawers, maybe 3 at the top and 2 wider ones below. Cupboards on the side. Chunky carcass with light/ash oak-stained top.

Absolutely, what I’ve found thus far uses pine and I may ask for a higher quality no knot wood for the top.

So not the best, but better than Coricraft’s higher-quality non MDF/ply stuff, and around half the price.

so you want more of a cupboard than a plasma stand

cost of wood im sure is around 3k max for something like that. the only thing is the doors and the top board which would be pricey

See example above. Side cupboards, drawers in between. Yes it needs to have lots of storage, especially for 3 consoles which I’ll probably keep hidden in the cupboards if partner has her way. Obviously I would prefer to have them on display.

Ya, and also want to spend on quality soft close drawer rails/sliders.

Yes, pine would be a big improvement on the crap that most of the big-name business offer. Most of it is imported from the far east and it's cheap sh$t that they try and pass off as quality.

Just be careful of being scammed on FB marketplace.
