Hi
Recently purchased an 8ta Sim with 25+25 gig allowance, been using it for about a week now and seems ok
have had occasional speed drops in the evenings but seems to recover itself
I tried a Skype call this afternoon to the UK surprisingly good Video & Sound quality. Thing is how much would the Skype eat in to my allowance of 25g day time use or 25g after 11pm say for a ten to twenty minute call
Any info would be much appreciated

https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1417/how-much-bandwidth-does-skype-need

Of course the higher connection and clear the video, the more bandwidth you use.

Doesn't matter which allowance you use (or even network), bandwidth usage will be the same (of course, using after 11PM might be much better than prime time, which means more bandwidth), or should be the same.

Average video call usage is 50KB/s according to the URL. So 20 mins (1200s x 50KB/s) would roughly consume 60MB.

Thanks Slab
60 mb doesn't sound to bad, we had a Cell.C 3gig sim couple of weeks ago. Wife got a face time call on the iPhone from UK
think she spoke for about 20 mins and the 3gig was gone, mind you we had been using it for emails web browsing for about a week before that
Thanks again

Jeez, quick Google search; FaceTime uses roughly same bandwidth as Skype. Something definitely amiss there.

Thought that myself.
bought another 3gig off Cell.C next day lasted longer but not by much and that was with no vide downloads or FaceTime.
Decided to try the 8ta seems ok just now.
Problem we have is that i applied for an ADSL line about 3 weeks ago as their is an existing line in the house we recently purchased
thought everything was fine till i contacted Telkom to find the Exchange was full no ADSL lines available they have mentioned 20th Sept 2013 but that is not set in stone will keep my fingers crossed
Thanks

Skype will pretty much use as much bandwidth as you can provide, it will adjust the video and audio quality to the max you can do on your connection, so there is almost no way to predict data use/cost beforehand. I think last time I checked, I used about 250MB in 30 mins. Best way to find out is to check your balance, make a call for 20min or however long you usually do, and check again.
