I think, that these are separate discussions [ergo separate threads], lets not cross-pollenate the threads and end up with a hybrid monster :).

aaahh - Guess I should pay the higher price then....Just a pity about the cap otherwise I could really have fun. According to the web speedtests, it is quicker - GamCo: speed is 1041.8 kbps ; Telkom: 827.9 Kbps.

I'm not sure when i missed the boat but the last time i checked the prices for 3G data bundles the cost per meg on a 3G-one bundle was 49c. Its now 60c/meg.

Does this have something to do with the fact that the 3G data packages can be bought as standalone contracts now?

In any case this price reduction looks like it will just bring us back to square one. Am i looking at this the right way?

It's:

- 59c/Meg for the 1st Gig, IF you get a 3G/HSDPA card included on contract.
- 49c/Meg, if you just take a bundle.

New 3G-only pricing will be 20% less on the above.

Hey v3g, can we change our contracts from HSDPA/3G to 3G only?

I would assume so, at least once. There's been a lot of confusion around all of this, so we'll need to be accomodating.

Would you want to? You'll probably would have to swap your card back.

Well, with the quality of the signal here, I don't get better than 3G anyway, thus yes, I would want to! I'm reluctant to pay for something I can't get! :)

I dont like the idea of that (swapping your card back). Im thinking about getting an HSDPA data card and using the new priced 3g bolt-on bundles (with a cheap contract) but i wouldnt want to be told that i can only get a regular 3G card if i wasn't buying an HSDPA data bundle.
I'd like the option to buy either depending on how much i wanted to pay.
Perhaps a solution to what happens when the bundle is up is just to supply data at the card's max speed at the out-of-bundle rate. More choice that way!

Oh, and can some1 clarify if its possible to use a 4U contract to buy the data-bundles?
tnx

3G and HSDPA billing

We are looking to upgrade two of our 3G (HSDPA) accounts from the 500Meg bundle to the 1Gig bundle, but our SP Nashua Mobile, informs us that there is different pricing for 3G and HSDPA. They informed us that 3G pricing will be dropping in June, HSDPA stays the same price, could V3G, please explain this to me, as I am of the opinion that 3G and HSDPA are data related, how would Vodacom or Nashua Mobile distinguish the difference in service usage and bill at the different rates ? If this is true then it would be fair to also distinguish between EDGE and GPRS pricing, so that the consumer scores if they are using a lower rate, such as GPRS.

From what I can understand, if you have an HSDPA/EDGE card, no matter what signal you are picking up, you will pay the higher rate (premium).

You can (from 5 June) swap back to a refurbed 3G card, and a migration needs to take place on their billing system (which will only take place on the 1st day of the following month), and then you will be billed at the 20% lower price of 3G/GPRS. You will, however, be limited to 384kbps on 3G.

You can do these swapovers only once every 30 days. So if your tower is not 3G enabled, or edge enabled, and you only get GPRS, it makes sense to stick with the old 3G datacard. Then once the tower is covered, do your swap and migration should you want the higher speed of HSDPA/Edge.
