Hi guys,

I was just involved in my second accident in my car. First one I was rear ended at a stop street and this one a student driver pulled out from a stop street perpendicular to me without looking and we collided. So neither were too bad in terms of damage.

My question is how is this going to affect the value of my car? After repairs, which both times were purely cosmetic how much can I expect this to affect the value of the vehicle? And would I be better off trading in or selling direct given the circumstances.

N.B. I am not currently planning on selling my car but would just like to answer all the questions I have before I do.

Thanks!

I've been in an accident that was more than just cosmetic, got it repaired and you couldn't see the damage that was repaired, when I sold my car I told the guy it was in an accident when he asked, we discussed the accident and he said it looks well repaired so it shouldn't impact on anything, got a proper trade in deal and was off. So from my limited experience is if it is not visible there isn't much to worry about

If if done correctly then not much, when you sell just say never been accident, as sales guy would lied to you anyway if you were buying it.

Take detailed pics so you can prove it's cosmetic if you want to repair it first.

Ultimately it all depends who you are selling it to and how much they are willing to pay for it.

Most cars on our roads have been in some shape or form of accident, the question really is just whether that accident left any lasting impression that is going to be a concern down the line.

My car has had the front bumper replaced twice, it's not going to make any difference at all to the resale value as long as it was repaired.

If it wasn't repaired and sold "as is" then the value would go in it's **** for a mere little crack on the bumper.

Best you don't worry about these things, it will make absolutely no difference to your life. What's happened has already happened, you can't go back in time to change it.

Rather change what you can change and that means getting it repaired properly and by the right people and not taking any shortcuts. A bad repair job is going to cost you down the line, a good one nobody will even know happened.

Bumpers, Fenders etc. that are professionally repaired to factory spec make no difference to the price.

You would struggle to find a car on the road that hasn't had at least some cosmetic damage or panels or bumpers replaced.

I am just upfront with the person. I said in the past that I replaced the bumper or a fender etc. They didn't care or reduce the asking price.
