13 - 14 days for order completion and device delivery.
I did my upgrade from 10 to 20MB in store and walked out with the modem, they were out of stock for the LIT box though. Figure one of the kids can have it since I use Rokus and they're obsessed with YouTube.

I did my order via phone. Will have to go RICA at Telkom shop for the 1GB sim though.

I build a KODI box for the lounge. Use that for streaming and entertainment. Kids use Youtube on their tablets, wife also prefers streaming over her phone... all over the wifi. It'll still count towards usage, but hey... overall I'm looking at almost R200 saving.

And after looking at Beesboetjies' research (https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=482408&d=1512364496) I think Telkom won't hit me as hard on the FUP as Webafrica currently does. 80% of internet usage in my house is Youtube, 10% Google Play and 10% porn.

JOKES!

10% memes.

If I download it's scheduled for 00:15 to 05:45 at night.

I forgot to ask the Telkom call centre though... the 1GB mobile data on the T1 sim: Is that a once of or monthly amount you get?

Hi Trent242. Don’t forget that WhatsApp phone calls are “free” through ADSL. Nothing in life is free, you are paying R599. According to mybroadband a WhatsApp phone call costs 470 kB per minute. If your 3 daughters phone for 60 minutes a day, every day, then you use 826 MB per month. That’s not even a GB, with ADSL that is “free”.

I hope you are right. But the call centre agent indicated only streaming from qualifying sources (Netflix, Youtube, SHowmax, DSTV) through the LIT_ box, qualifies.

Hi Trent242, sorry, but that does not sound right to me. You can stream YouTube, DStv, ShowMax etc on your smart phone if you have a FreeMe 5GB mobile data package. Obviously without a TV Media Box. How can ADSL free streaming now be restricted through your TV Media Box? I cannot argue with your call centre agent, but It does not make sense.

I agree with your point. Maybe it allows for free streaming as long as its 360P definition, regardless of device on the connection. If you go to a higher resolution, it utilizes you data as normal.

I doubt that they would distinguish based on resolution. otherwise 720p videos on YouTube would also be metered

Because you have multiple users ( not downloading) your line speed trumps bandwidth.
Your girls need to eat, work and sleep so the best bet is look for a capped ADSL package that gives you 8mbps at 300gb/ month.

Anything more than that, then they're downloading to a hard drive. Totally unnecessary if they're streaming from YouTube and other sources.

I've a 10mb uncapped account for the past couple of years and with visitors coming to stay for the holidays, as well as two kids and a wife, it would have put a strain on it. With the price reductions 20MB is still a couple hundred less per month than I was paying for 10 not long ago.

@OP - good luck with the LIT box - there's a huge waiting list for them around these parts.

Just a headsup when you use the simcard ensure you set apn as TelkomInternet else it'll drive you insane with never accessing the net.
