Quiz – see how well you know your Apple products

It was attended to earlier this year.

Oh ok, I'm sure the thousands of people with the problem didn't mind waiting a year for it to be addressed.

Top notch build quality and customer service

PlasmaPot how is the compatibility between Apple and Windows working out? You got the POS iTunes installed on windows?

Plasma is superior to LCD, it's a bit silly to use the better tech for mocking. I have spent years fighting the mistruths in the TV industry to the benefit of many, many consumers.

iTunes is a fantastic software library which I use to decide what to push out to my Apple devices. For backups, purchasing media, etc.

There's a process to everything.

But the build quality is unrivaled? The recall programs are excellent?

Why, pray tell, did these Apple devices which are the peak of technological achievement fail in the first place? Is the premium for Apple products not due to the superior build quality and customer service?

Let me just clarify that I do editing on the PC in my sig, not on a Mac. I do, however, use a fairly high end IPS display (not Eizo or NEC high-end, an Asus ProArt PA279Q - maybe one day when I have R 40,000 lying around to blow on a screen I'll grab an Eizo but I don't see that happening in my lifetime :D). However, I won't discredit the Apple Cinema HD displays - they're right up there with the best.

Apple doesn't manufacture the GPUs. Remember the class action lawsuit against NVIDIA over the faulty GPUs extensively used in the HP Pavilion dv6000 and dv9000 laptops? Do you blame NVIDIA or HP for that? HP didn't make the GPUs.

You know about the pathetic VRMs on the reference design cards leading to very high failure rates on the GeForce GTX 570? Do you blame AIB partners for that or NVIDIA? The partners didn't specify the reference design.

You know that the reference design Radeon R7/R9 series, even though newer, has a significantly higher failure rate that the older Radeon HD 7xxx series? Do you blame AIB partners for that or AMD? The partners didn't specify the reference design.

But dude, its a macbook pro, the quality is impeccable. Its not the vendors problem, its apple, there should be no problems at all.

Intel Itaniums are designed to military spec and approved for military use, it doesn't mean they can't fail. Are you familiar with Motorola's Six Sigma? The more complex something is, the higher the probability of failure. Look how complex, for example, a Macbook Pro motherboard is compared to the small, sparsely populated PCB in most other laptops and it's a miracle any of them work at all - the fact that they do points towards a brilliant design.

So Apple is the only company that this standard is applied to?

According to [-]Pol[/-] Postmanpot it is.

Not from what I'm reading, semaphore is applying one standard to Apple when everyone else applies another standard to all the others.

I'm not the one coming to the forum claiming that apple products or other products are impeccable and of outstanding quality. That is Postmanpot. We're merely pointing out how many flaws this superior and top notch quality this product is. I know other laptops have had many faults, but they don't have a horde of Starbucks polar neck cowboys riding on their stallions to their defence.

Have you actually USED a Macbook Pro before? Not just played around, but USED on. As much as I can't stand Apple at the best of times (hell, something like six pages of this thread included me saying what a waste of money Apple is), there's a reason I said I won't take him on regarding the MBP.

I used (development, music production) a MBP exclusively for about four years, I own a 13" MBP and 17" MBP. So I will take him on regarding an MBP. So yes I have.

Yeah the only Apple computers I'm interested in are MBPs (and Mac minis). MBPs have always had the best build quality out there, best Trackpads, very uniform screens, battery life, audibility, etc. Even the non-Retina MBP's 6-bit TN screens with dithering are brilliant.

No one is saying the MacBook is a bad piece of tech, they don't have a cult following purely based on their marketing. They do have a lot going for them : *nix based operating system is a big plus for me, the build quality is good, if you spend a large amount of time on international flights an air or the new 900g MacBook is almost unrivaled.

What irks me is the blind brand loyalty and all the bull**** that comes with it. The belief that Apple produces immaculate tech and is the only choice, always.

As I said early on in this thread, the biggest problem with Apple is their userbase. The incessant circlejerk gets a bit much.
