How is the noise levels on the Synapse?UPS = Short term solution (Primary used for switch over between primary and alternative power)
Inverter = Long term solution (Alternative power source)
Primary
1st asses how much power you consume or need to cover and for how long. if its 100-600W look at options bellow if more you might wanna look at proper installed units.
Portable Modified sine wave
Mecer 12v or 24v <-- most people on the forum seem to opt for these ones see this thread
Ellies 12v or 24v
Geewiz 12V or 24V
Portable Pure sine wave
Synapse
Some places sell prebuilds with trolly and batteries included, but my strongest recommendation is whatever option you pick you must go for LiFePO4. The LA crap is only good for a year or 2.
Batteries
Lead Acid (R2000-R3000) for 250 Cycles (Can only use 50%)
AGM (R3000-R4000) for 300-600 cycles (Can only use 60%)
LiFePO4 (R5000-R8000) for 2000-3000+ Cycles
Hubble have and S series that have been field tested & recommended by a couple of people on the forum
Mecer also have stock LiFePO4's but I cant recommend them as I know next to nothing about them.
If you want an installed solution the field opens widely as well as options and best advised to get an installer to quote.
Personally I use
1 x Mecer 24v (R2000)
1 x 24v SAKO 100AH LiFePO4 (R11000) Still in testing
1 x DIY Trolly (R400)
and can run 450-500W sustained for 2:30 hours without even breaking a sweat
450W = 5 LED's, 58" TV, Media PC, Game Console, WiFi, Fibre, NAS & Alarm)
Battery charger included in the inverter? So for one of my setups it came to R5500.
1500w Pure sinewave inverter R2600
120ah AGM battery 2500
Westpack container with hole drilled in the back to put thing was like R250 or so and R150 for delivery.
Yup it is + it has a pwm as well for solar panel if wanted. Oh yeah cables that's why it was R250, the cables were like R100 or so bucks.Battery charger included in the inverter?

Not that I can see, they took the freaking manual when they cleared out the boxes :-( cause they even set it up for me, but I had friends over so only realised they took the boxes and manual with.Does it have a battery chem selector?
Hi @-=AlteredNeon=- . What would be connected to the UPS/Inverter and for how long do you want it to last?I have spent thousands on UPS’s in my home to assist in load shedding.
I have 5x 2Kva UPS’s in my house that has died, none lasts longer than 6 months. I keep on purchasing 2Kva UPS’s and end up throwing them in the bin.
Sadly, all I see is RTC Rectron Cr@p that never lasts.
I’m willing to spend up to 20K, I am in an estate, so noise is a problem with generators. Maybe I can get a quiet generator in my garage.
Or a battery backup that does not die on me.
Is there anyone out there that can assist me in getting a viable option.
All I need is some knowledgeable person to come out and see my setup and quote me on various options.
I have no knowledge around these things at all, I don’t want to be taken for a ride, and will pay what is due.
I am willing to pay for a call out, but also would like references.
I am willing to pay R1000 for a call out and quote, but as stated above will need references which I will peruse first.
Anybody Out There ?
I am in Burgundy Estate, Milnerton Western Cape.
Thank You.
Why do some people think LiFePo4 is not a lithium ion?@-=AlteredNeon=-
You need an inverter, not a UPS.
Preferably a low frequency inverter (i.e toroid transformer based), not the high switching crap 99% of inverters tend to be, especially if you intend to wire it into your house. (hint - if the inverter weighs less than 25 kg for 3kW, it is not a low frequency inverter)
You also need to bite the bullet and get lithium iron batteries for it (Iron, not ion. LiFePo cells are what you want)
You're looking at ~R11k for the inverter, and at 24V 100Ah ~ R9000 for the batteries (i.e. 2.4 kWh storage)
Why do some people think LiFePo4 is not a lithium ion?
I guess ill-informed blogs like that are the reason the ignorance perpetuates.![]()
Lithium Iron Phosphate Vs. Lithium-Ion: Differences and Advantages
Advances in battery technologies has placed lithium chemistry at the fore front for being the best power source for high energy use in portable devices.blog.epectec.com

Ion refers to an atom or molecule with a net electrical charge. In the case of any lithium based battery, this would be the role played by lithium and hence lithium-ion. There are various types of lithium-ion chemistries, of which LiFePO4 is one.

Become familiar with the many different types of lithium-ion batteries: Lithium Cobalt Oxide, Lithium Manganese Oxide, Lithium Iron Phosphate and more.batteryuniversity.com
If lithium iron isn't a lithium-ion, then what is the ion in the LiFePO4 chemistry?True but 99% of the general populace sees Lithium ion as cobalt which is bad for environment
So in order to separate itself Lithium Iron is mentioned as a separate entity in order to shed that negative cred.
Only the purists like yourself have an issue with it.![]()
If lithium iron isn't a lithium-ion, then what is the ion in the LiFePO4 chemistry?
Only reason any part of the general populace confuses lithium-ion with cobalt is because people who should know better don't communicate properly about the chemistries used.
Exactly. Could have installed a pretty decent backup solution with all that money he's thrown away on UPS.Your first issue was buying UPS for long term outages, you'd need an inverter with deep cycle batteries
Good deal. Remind me I need to follow up installed I did, as the electrian wanted 10k more to do same install than what i did. Not an eletrician myself but I do know what positive and negative is lolI replaced my old Mecer system with this yesterday -

Not at all. I'm just confused when people say to buy LiFePO4 and specify not lithium-ion. I'm yet to find a LiFePO4 battery that isn't lithium-ion.Lemme guess you one of those that have issues when people say "Google it" or "Velcro" as well?
