Well for that to be valid conventional outright purchasing needs to go away.

Until then it’s nothing but a conspiracy theory.

If everything is part of one of a few subscription services..... why would anyone still use conventional outright purchasing? How would that itself not become so niche that only a handful of people would bother with it?

Nothing to do with "conspiracy theory" it is a logical inevitability. M$ has tried to do this a few times for their own software and will keep trying, other major software developers has tried or already has done so..... games because of their nature of not requiring yearly updates will be the last natural holdout.

I do not see any logical reason for this to be crackpot especially since it is already happening the first having been steam locking access to a profile that can be revoked instead of physical media.

So if it’s inevitable what are you exactly on about?

If it’s going to happen it’s going to happen and nothing you can do about it.

No reason so mope about it on the internet.

I’m quite content with things going exactly this way and getting rid of the archaic systems in place at present.

If a game subscription becomes the only option calling it voluntary becomes a farce.

That's because they were competing with perpetual licensing.... once the competitor disappears and they have a captive market the quality will go down. Remember, competition is a sin.

The problem comes from the companies you subscribe to that will compete with each other to get games.... creating a situation where devs don't need to focus on quality as much as quantity.
Exactly my concern as well. I have paid R18.35 in over a year, R15.55 was to get a digital copy of something I already owned. If the industry has their way I'd have had to pay over R1800 for the same time just to play the games I now already own. They are pushing for subscription services that cost more over time.
