I disagree - no evidence of the fact that upgrading breaks contract was provided in the thread - telkom has also informed me that upgrading of linespeed can be done at no charge - I believe this is just another example of telkom not knowing their own rules.
The first assertion was that it broke the contract and no evidence to the contrary was provided. At the very least he should have been aware of the possibility. Fair enough?

As for the migration fee - yes - we and telkom know there is no charge for that. The link you provided also clearly points out under DSL Migrations that
An existing Home DSL 384 Bundle customer can upgrade to HomeDSL 512. The customer remains liable for the penalty on the existing contract, but no migration fee is payable.

An existing HomeDSL 384 Bundle customer can upgrade to HomeDSL 512 Bundle and receive a free modem of choice, subject to the signing of a new 24 months DSL Bundle Contractual. The customer remains liable for the penalty on the existing contract, no migration fee is payable.

Yet another unhappy telkom customer... not once in all the "excitement" of the upgrades did I see or hear the word "contract". Surely if you are on a contract - and upgrade your line - your contract is still existent with the providing company - an upgrade they encouraged you to do... if they were going to charge people for broken contracts this should have been the first thing customers were informed of when they phoned them... I want to upgrade... well, are you on an existing contract? A 2 second check of customer records - which they would have looked at to do the upgrade (and didn't inform you.) This is underhanded sickening ripoff practise by a company that knows it is untouchable.

Telkom = Untouchable tomorrow

Only a company entrenched in its monopoly filth would allow such practises.

True:)
For interest sake I phoned telkom accounts department at the time of the thread and was assured once again that no penalties are payable when upgrading the linespeed but you remain bound by the contract until the end of the initial 24 months.

The situation were you remain on a bundle offering and do not want a new modem is not covered:(

What would you expect from an unsavoury bunch like that?

Yeah - I forgot - there are no limits to the depravity - a company that doesn't care for the opinion or perception of its customers... or even its president (of SA) - telco costs are too high... but telkom just keeps laying it on... Sickos.

Corporate citizen? I think telkom should just leave the country -.

Im willing to bet that you'll find PostmanPot was dealing with a bonehead who thought he wants a new contract, new modem and everything not just a simple line upgrade, in other words an idiot that doesnt know the product. Telkom can't be that greedy can they?

Please don't answer that last question, I could just imagine the responses!
