I "was" with ABSA Private Bank - their service has been so shocking over the years, and due to current markets, I've been unable to get a bond at a another bank for a similiar interest rate.

Every single request I sent to ABSA Private Bank they stuffed up, even the most simple of requests, like ordering a credit card.

So I was paying ABSA R400+ in fee's a month, and doing my banking at FNB for R180 a month, so in total I was paying a minumum of R580 a month. ABSA would also not allow me to change the account to a normal bond.

Then finally I managed to get a bond at a little better rate than ABSA, and I took up the offer at a cost of R21,700 - which is an indication of just how bad ABSA's service is.

I'll be saving almost R300 in fee's and around R200 a month in interest, so over the term of the loan I'll make my R21,700 back.

I'm just thankfull I will never have to deal with ABSA again, even the bond transfer took over two months, with the new bank saying they've never had so many issues dealing with another institution.

I couldn't even get a post dated settlement letter from ABSA on my credit card without a complaint on hellopeter, apparently it's impossible to generate a post dated letter, and obviously ABSA can't afford calculators to work it out.

ABSA - Good riddance, may you get whats coming to you.

So they never dealt with ABSA before your matter ?

Yeh, they had - this time round though they had endless issues (above the normal). It took almost six weeks for ABSA just to send an acceptance of the cancellation.

I actually think it was delibrate on ABSA Private's side, as they knew this was coming - so they tried to be as diffficult as possible, because I've changed branches and bankers various times in an attempt to get away from the bad service.

I've also met with various levels of management over time, and they've agreed the service was not what it was supposed to be, and gave their word to improve, nothing changed.

I hear you... I got so sick and tired of their incompetance that I went in to close my business account with them. Would you believe they could not find it, neither by name, nor by ID number!

I had the same experience with Absa private bank. I have also moved and happily paid the price of moving the bond.

I still cannot believe Woolworths moved all their business from Standard Bank to ABSA.

Really hope they will fire the man/woman who made that crap decision!!

ABSA won't be shafting people from next month.

They're changing their name to Barclays.

They'll still have the same staff, with the same managers, and managers of managers with zero accountability.

Meh... all of the big four are more or less the same. I have always banked with ABSA and not had issues, best rates - prime on first car and prime -1 on second one.

They could do away with it, today, tomorrow or whenfckingever.

And the lame joke that ABSA stands for "All Bankrupt South Africans".

Well most probably it's true, but the truth might sometimes make people uncomfortable. :D

The ABSA brand will remain. They will be changing their trading name to Barclays Africa Group following ABSA Group Ltd's merger of Barclays Africa PLC. The bank itself will still be known as ABSA though.
