R216-billion software update for F35 fighter jets is flawed

A $14 billion (R216 billion) Pentagon software upgrade for F-35 jets is being installed on planes that are already deployed even though it’s “immature, deficient and insufficiently tested,” according to a new assessment by the military’s testing office.

Aircraft operators “identified deficiencies in weapons, fusion, communications and navigation, cybersecurity and targeting processes that required software modification and additional time and resources, which caused delays,” according to the 13-page assessment in the testing office’s annual report, which will soon be released.

Not a good advert for the F35:

First crash human error by failing to properly remove an engine cover and the second likely caused by arresting gear failure on the carrier.

We also do have a thread discussing the trials and tribulations of the aircraft here.

No surprise or shock. All software >1kloc is flawed. Period.

The F-35 is still by far the most awesome 5g general utility fighter in the known universe. Even before the first over flew the program was designed for continual development.

And peeps thought that Tesla self-driving software had issues? :)

In the mean time Taliban got great again with . . .
