So I didn't notice that my licence disc expired and was stopped by a officer. Who proceeded to write me a ticket for R3000 believe it or not. The ticket says "Unroadworthy vehicle" my vehicle is road worthy he insisted that was the charge for an expired disc.

Personally I think he's out of his mind, when he handed it to me I thought it was perhaps Leon Schuster in disguise.

Any help please this makes no sense

They seems to try to recoup e-toll losses, someone may have read something somewhere and connected the wrong dots....

How many days expired?

Go renew it ASAP. Deal with the fine afterwards

Renew first then go see the prosecutor and show him the roadworthy certificate. Don't say anything about an expired disk as that wasn't the charge. The fine should be scrapped but if it isn't wait the court date where the officer should explain exactly what was unroadworthy. They won't be able to and they didn't write a fine for the expired disk so it won't hold up.

About 3days. Deal with it how? No way I'm paying it

you get 21 days after expiry to renew, if it was 3 days after the date on the disc then he couldn't legally write you up for an expired disc.

Did you refuse a bribe or something? You have 21 days grace on an expired disk so just go pay and then write them a nice letter asking to explain themselves.

Write to the prosecutor for your muni, tell them you can't afford it, and can afford to pay Rxx a month. They'll typically write back with a reduced amount. Everything is negotiable.

Is that licence disc page a road worthy certificate?
Technically not. A real roadworthy certificate is obtained from the testing center and used to register the car confirming it's roadworthy. Registration certificate will confirm that was done. If you're written up for unroadworthy vehicle they should state what it is on the car that wasn't roadworthy and not just "unroadworthy."

Brains don't seem to be common with them, like the one who wrote a ticket because the "white lights" only work when the car is in reverse.

Please tell me that's on video?

Yeah they don't have a case here. Thought the highest fine a cop could give is R1500, anything higher is decided in court?

Yup and if his disc really was three days overdue; there is no legal grounds for writing the fine out to begin with.
