R8/$ anyone ?

It got ZUMAed! :D

What is it with this song? Do they mean this literally or figuratively.
Was this a freedom Song from the struggle?

Truth is it has probably more to do with the trade deficit.
More Imports than Exports. South Africa has been enjoying buying in cheap goods from other countries and this has now caught up with us.

The level isn't really as important as stability. This jumping around is crazy

Congrats Zuma. You're doing wonders for this country.

I'm loving it - I recently took out a loan overseas due to the lower interest rates and my money is going so much further now. :)

Nope, this has more to do with the current instability in the present governing party, although the trade deficit has played a part.

Agreed - why should anybody invest in SA when the lawyers make a mess of prosecuting a potential corrupt power figure.

The question is not if Z is corrupt, but what the ability is to prosecute corrupt officials.

The COSATU congress did not do much to ease the tensions - it discussed the possibility of nationalising SASOL etc.

I would be fearful it could go the route of Zim and local farm redistribution where the honourable minister determines the concept of fair value.

Moral of the story: Sell you SASOL shares ASAP!

on the plus side, it is now 50% cheaper for me to buy a holiday house in s.a. compared to earlier this year when it was 10.5/£

Just read on News24 that traders say 8.20/$ is possible in coming weeks.

Zuma the reason? maybe not... all emerging markets having a fallout, brazilian real in trouble, turkish lira with problems, C4 political problems, etc. never mind the $6 biilion hedgefund blow-up of late which is closing off positions everywhere...
