Racism crisis at Yorkshire County Cricket Club

Guys, its been about time that we get comfortable talking about issues relating to race and our past.
Look at where trying to deny that it happened or making excuses for it has gotten CSA and others.

Lets try to learn from one another instead of doing the ostrich thing.

we need to get realise that, while these discussions are uncomfortable for all involved, NOT talking about them results in worse outcomes.

Growth is painful, but growth is good for us.

So if we do not keep whining about it...and keep blaming everything on it...Apartheid WILL come back.

That old adage of "history repeating itself" seems so useful in these conversations, but it's actually ridiculous and not even slightly applicable.

It's equally silly to think that racism simply ceased in this country after 1994. Why are you so upset when racism in an area of society is highlighted in an attempt to fix it?

I get upset at perceived racism, based on feels and what was said 20 years ago.

This thirst for revenge is what's keeping this country down.

ALL the focus is on the past...so much so that the future is ignored.

On that, I think we can agree I Am all for discouraging racism in the here and now but dragging someone over the coals for something said 20 years ago...yeah it just doesn't sit right.

Or you could just not post.

Hopefully ECB **** YCCC up for this.
They get cheap thrills virtue signaling racist kark because they're all sigma males. Were you not aware?

Nike has pulled the plug.

Cancel culture is a far right concept.
Love watching you lot thrash around trying to catch your tails when "cancel culture" collides with free market capital.

Brah, your team keeps losing cos your views are wrong.

are you refering to boucher calling adams a brown ****? what makes you think that its not racisim and only percieved racism as you put it? I'm asking this honestly. Not trying to troll.

None of us can presume to know how Adams felt about it then or even now.

I, as a non-white, attended a majority Afrikaans model C school in the 90s. And, overall, im thankful for the experience. I was considered a trouble maker during my seniour years because i spoke about things that were awkward

But as a Junior i allowed myself to be taken advantage of.

I had a teacher that used to say things like "julle bruin leerders". might not seem a big deal now. but it made me feel like an other and that ppl like me were considered other. I never had the courage to call him out on it or to ask him to stop doing that. I was also just happy to be a part of something in someway. But the way he treated "bruin leerders" wasnt right because it wasnt addresssed. He might not have been aware, but that doesnt make it right or justifiable. As a leader, he was expected to be better.

So i can relate to adams, you dont forget these things

Quotes my comment...even though you literally have no idea what I said.

You do you, man.

Cancel away at your heart's content. Just be sure to also comment when the "Right" is accused of pushing cancel culture.

What makes you decide that it IS racism?

Yet all you virtue signalers DO presume to know and decide to take Boucher on, on Adam's behalf.

And....? You want revenge? What is it that you want now? Maybe find that teacher and drag him to SAHRC? I mean that seems to be the right thing to do, no?

I dont agree with cancel culture... because it does nothing to address the actual issue.

A honest conversation can be so much more productive.

The problem is the honesty part

What makes you decide that it IS racism?
Well, there's adams testimony. He was treated a certain way because of his race. remember he testified that he was not only called that during fines meetings. Do we have any reason to believe that hes lying? He testified under oath.
Yet all you virtue signalers DO presume to know and decide to take Boucher on, on Adam's behalf.
I never claimed to be a virtue signaller, theres his testimony. He said that all he wanted was an apology. He got a press statement. And now we are here.

Nope. Im just relating my experience, hopefully for the benefit of the audience. Thats all.
Its in the past. If i ever see him again, i'll maybe try to converse with him about it, if he is willing. I certainly am. For the benefit of both of us.
I dont bare any malice towards him, i can understand that it might have been an adjustment for him back in '94. But that doesnt mean what he did was right or justified.

Edit: expanding on my thoughts.

He was someone in authority, and i was merely a 13/14 year old trying to keep my nose clean in a world i never knew existed, let alone ever thought i would be a part of. And also had my own biases and predjudices about.

Not everyone that has such experiences is out for blood, or holding a grudge. I am really sad that you feel that way.

But the point im trying to make is that when we try to talk maturely, with open hearts and minds about these things, we can actually get somewher.

being on the defensive about them just keeps us going backwards

There must be a whole generation from my time walking around with psychological problems because of what we where called during our school years " Tubby , Spotty , Ginger , Sproetgesig ect ect ". Then after school came national service , which in todays world would be the biggest atrocity to mankind because of all the things one was called during that period that may hurt one's fealings for the next 30 yrs. :sneaky: . I'm still waiting for all those people to openly apologize in public .:crying:

When a coach/teacher says things like: "waars die spin bowlers, kom, julle bruin leerders kan mos net spin bowl"
OR "julle bruin leerders is net goed genoeg om vleul te speel" OR "julle bruin leerders moet liewer nie Natsky doen nie"

Making it about race being tied to ones capability or competence. (edit) Or how one's participation is viewed and valued/or not valued

At the same time, it doesnt make what you experienced less real, just not the same.

I'm sure this still happens these days, and we cant have this stuff still happening. Kids dont see colour, it gets taught to them.

the sudden silence here leads me to believe that this topic is awkward... I'm not asking for sympathy guys just honest conversation. We all have biases, just be honest about them. No one wins or loses in these convos, we all learn that we actually have more in common, which is a case for better collaboration.
