Do you have to have the same one that came with the car? Get an MP3 CD playing car radio from HiFi Corp. Beats radio anyday...

Nope, i want the one that came with the car.... it looks all purdy that way. The after market radios dont look nice and it looks cheap no matter how much you spent. But thats just my opinion

the volume knob should be easy to repair ... if you do consider an aftermarket deck (yes i know you dislike them) please don't go to hifi-corp, you'll end up returning it time after time... rather go to autostyle or the waterfront (i see you in randburg as well) there's a shop at the waterfront that sells all of that stuff and they install it for you as well.

GM told me that they can take it out and send it in for repair but that there is no guarantee that they can fix it and they are WAY to expensive/overpriced for my liking.

I know about autostyle, have bought some accesories there before... :D

Do you have the Philips model or the newer VDO one?

I paid R2500 for a new VDO one back in 2004 and I am so dissapointed that I did not spend R900 instead on a Sony CD/MP3 front loader at the time. They really rip you off with these "stock" front loaders.

If you are really hardup to keep it stock I might sell you mine for a couple of hundred.

I have the VDO radio as well in my car...jip i really really want to keep my car stock... the only way i will ever buy an aftermarket radio is if it has the same colour back lighting as the rest of the cars instruments ie. orange.

Are you maybe still interested in selling it? and at what price?

First let me see if I can get mine out - I actually had to buy it when the guys at GM tested it in my car (the Philips one died and I was not sure the VDO would work) but they could not get it out. I think they bent both D-keys trying to get it out :p

I'll pm you if I manage to get it out - this weekend or early in next week.

Thx Rouxenator, i appreciate it..... the techies at the garages have questionable skills sometimes.....youd think their bosses would spent some money on training.....

As long as the radio is in perfect working order i'll gladly take it of your hands(and if it looks like my cars radio) :)

Sorry - bad news. While it is in perfect working order and it is the same as you have in your car - I am unable to get it out of my car. I have applied more force than I think was good and even still it will not come out...

Personally I would get a nice MP3/USB model if I were you. These VDO ones only played CD and CD-RW.

er... is it the double din unit?

you need to unscrew the little nut thingys , but they don't hold the radios in ,they are just there to cover the holes, then you have to place toothpicks in the holes to push the slide mechanisms apart and then the radio will easily slide out

Normal sized - it used the same D-keys as the one I had in before, and that one came out real easy.

Still interested? I got it out (finally) and with a lot of effort (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=194340) I upgraded to an LG MP3 Frontloader.
