Do you mean I can stop building the spaceship in my backyard? We aren't doomed, we don't have to leave mother earth? ;)

I could start another completely opposite thread, with as little credibility as this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiation_hormesis
Radiation hormesis is the hypothesis that low doses of ionizing radiation (within the region of and just above natural background levels) are beneficial, stimulating the activation of repair mechanisms that protect against disease, that are not activated in absence of ionizing radiation (similar to vaccinations). The reserve repair mechanisms are hypothesized to be sufficiently effective when stimulated as to not only cancel the detrimental effects of ionizing radiation but also inhibit disease not related to radiation exposure (see hormesis). This hypothesis has captured the attention of scientists and public alike in recent years.

The only problem is people living on top of a mine dump.
Why pretend that's insignificant. That's a shîtload of people.

Geez People from Cape Town that has never been inland.

Because mine-dumps do not fit the thread title: "Cancer causing radiation in the whole of SA"

Obviously that's sensational. Can't you look past one word "whole"

If you want to start a thread called "living on top of mine dumps is bad for you", I would support you entirely.

If you want to talk about radiation hazards, start from a more coherent position.

I am calling out the OP for posting a sensational and unscientific thread in the news forum.

The Bishops teacher thread is also sensational, but at least it is factual (as far as we know...)

Meh. You got nothing but semantics.

Anyone that chooses to live on top of a mine dump has a lot more than Radon to be concerned about, which probably doesn't exist on most mine dumps, they have mental health issues.

The video's title on YouTube is "Radon Alert".

I will agree that the title of the Carte Blanche video did not include the text " - cancer causing radiation in whole of SA", which was a statement made by the OP, although the video mentioned relatively high Radon levels in several parts of South Africa which was likely the basis for the OP's thread title.

I was not aware that the News and Current Affairs forum had been elevated to a level of scientific study, when exactly did that happen?

There must be lots of dilapidated inner city buildings with people squatting in every corner including basement areas.

How many office buildings have basements including parking areas?

Since Radon is produced naturally in gaseous and solid forms, it is likely that people will come into contact with either form of Radon before it decays (< 4 days).

Any area in SA which has high concentrations of Uranium should be monitored for Radon concentrations as Uranium would be decaying and producing Radon at a steady rate, and the video specifically mentioned government's lack of regulatory policy surrounding Radon monitoring in SA.

In case that is not clear enough, the video was pointing out how government likes to go commando with public safety (the lack of health and safety regulations), and subsequently doesn't mind being caught with its pants down.

I agree with most of your comments, but feel you are whistling into the wind. There are many more urgent issues in SA, and the people squatting in basements aren't likely to be members of MyBB. If so you have made my point for me...

What ever, if there is radon in my house it is outside as well as most of my windows and doors are open for most of the day anyway.

Probably the smoke from veld fires is more damaging to my health

Think we'll all die from the generator pollution long before we have to worry about a little radon
