I use there network for work connectivity and it really sucks. On their coverage map it shows good 4G signal but far from it. When I spoke to there help line they are of no help as well. All they do is sell Sim cards and then leave the people to suffer with poor network quality.
Below are the screen shots of my speed.
Yeah well they shape Netflix. Rather use the Google speed test provided by M-Lab...

I'm based in Phoenix, in KZN, and the service provided by the current configuration is very poor, i barely get 1mb/s at any time. Between 12 and 6 everyday (weekend and weekday) there is limited to no connectivity, if you have one device or 10 devices.

Rain 24/7 Unlimited 4G tested - Downloads, gaming, streaming, and a VPN

Mobile operator Rain offers an Unlimited 4G 24/7 LTE product that offers uncapped mobile data for R479 per month, throttled at a speed of 10Mbps and limited to 360p streaming quality.

The product was launched on 17 March, days before the government announced the country would enter lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given its affordable price, many South Africans may have opted for the package in order to stay connected while stuck at home.
I have been on rain with webafrica and now also using the uncapped lte package and my speeds never go over 2mbps , plus there support is a total joke

I recently moved to kathu. Every house here has some form of a 4g signal booster. Can't say for sure they're all rain users. I get on average 6mbps

Still think these restrictions should be placed on the R250 package, the where all the damage is done. At the very least they should only apply at peak times for those on the R479 package.
Im on the R250 package. I am throttled from day 1. I cannot even stream 144p video... I couldnt do damage as you say if I tried. Best advice rain has for me is to cancel my sim.

if they were all on rain you would get under 1 meg.

How are the speeds on this unlimited 4g package these days? Do you need a VPN to make DStvNow and YouTube watchable?

Looking for an alternative to the Vumatel fibre monopoly in our area due to pricing.

VPNs are also being throttled.

Speeds are very specific to your location and the congestion of the tower that you are connected to, so only by testing it yourself will you find the answer.

Yeah, wasn't sure about the VPN effectiveness - remember reading about throttling somewhere.

Thanks.

The 5G R699 option from Rain might be better suited to our needs then.

Edit: or the new prepaid CellC Home Connecta Flexi options. Depends on the amount of streaming being done obviously.
