Hi

Is it possible to access CCTV cameras from outside my RAIN 5G network, running on a Huawei router?

Static IP, or some other option?

Or is this still not possible.

most of the dvr's and nvr's on the market now have some form of p2p or "cloud link" functionality , where the dvr talks to a server somewhere, and the app you use on your phone talks to the same server. No need for any static IP's or inbound routing

This is a 15 year old device [ Pro-Vision ], and was a bitch to setup to use No-Ip and worked a treat, then I got RAIN 5G and CGNAT and outside access died.

If I get Fiber with Afrihost plug it in, my cameras will come live again from the outside.

Possible that a low cap LTE solution might also work - Supersonic Fixed LTE-A worked, just that the service was atrocious.

Do you have any other device that could host a tailscale instance and you could map your network subnet to tailscale to access the entire network outside

Or will likely have to get a low cap LTE or Fibre from Afrihost on MTN (Stay away from supersonic they are a pain to deal with)

What is Taliscale?

As I understand Tailscale, I have to have a physical device out on the internet somewhere, that I setup tailscale to connect to from inside my network, then use that to be able to access the network from outside. It is that, outside point to connect Tailscale to that I lack.

I have a MikroTik RB750 GL that I am prepared to "sacrifice" for the purpose or MikroTik HAP-Light. Would prefer not to use my MikroTik HAP AX2 for this purpose.

And well, I will not use Supersonic for LTE again - but it might be the final solution

No Tailscale device will live at the place of the DVR and download the tailscale app onto your phone and it will create a p2p VPN to your house. Can the Mikrotiks Run Tailscale ? I have it on my Synology NAS.

You can sign up for an LTE package from Afrihost that runs on MTN, use this and my CCTV is fully accessible from the outside

I know that MikroTiks can connect to Tailscale - not sure how much can they do, or to what extent. Will explore further.

Also have an RPi that I can repurpose.

Thank you.

OK, for thd MikroTik to work they need ARM cpu, and a USB port to put a docker container on. Mine don't have USB ports, tho the AX2 has an ARM cpu.

Seems my RPi or LTE setup might be best Fiber on Frogfoot is more than a little too much, more expensive.

I see that MikroTiks running recent versions of RouterOs have now a BTH [ Back To Home ] feature, going yo try that.

I think it should work on the AX2 I have, will update and try.

i paid around R2500 for a new 16 channel hikvision with some "ai" crap like facial detection in last week, might be worth the upgrade

iDS-7216HQHI-M1 / S

its a hybrid, so 16 channels in total, can be a mix of analogue or IP

I use Zerotier running on a Pi inside my network to provide a way in from outside. My phone is also a ZT client. They form part of the same virtual network on ZT's config so I can see my LAN from outside.

Thanks, hoping I have the opportunity to work on this, this weekend - if my "work" gets done, and the available sport the does not tie me up.
