MBB can you get an answer from Rain on the following regarding the supposed OOH double up from 1/12/2018. So far I see no official statement on their website and my SP has no information either, yet you and the media keep talking about it. This is the msg I received from my SP about this issue;

"As for the anytime allowance data, we have not heard officially from RAIN if it will be applicable with us. I can notify you next week with any new additions."

I am assuming they will not differentiate between customers as I have been with them from day 1 but this type of response and their lack of update on their website is a little disconcerting and annoying. There seems to be a lot of promo they get on MBB but evidence of their intent is some what lacking. Also the lack of any official notice to customers is annoying.

I got this email from VOX:

"
Dear Customer,
Following the notification of the suspension of new rain sales from 1 November 2018, rain will implement an incentive for all active subscribers on the rain network as of 1 December 2018.

The incentive will be applied automatically and will give all active subscribers as of 1 December 2018, additional off-peak data equal to their allocated purchased data per month. In other words, a subscriber purchasing a 25GB package for R299 per month will receive 25GB of data for any time use as well as 25GB of data during the off-peak period.

Off-peak period is between 23h00 and 06h00 the following day, as amended from time to time at rain’s discretion."

"
Please note the following rain Business Rules and general notes:
  • Upward or downward migrations will continue to be accepted for all active subscribers after 1 November 2018
  • Existing packages and product rules will remain unchanged until 30 November 2018
  • Product rules for existing Double Data customers remain unchanged until 30 November 2018 when the original Double Data promotion expires
  • The additional off-peak data incentive will essentially replace this promotion from 1 December 2018 and be made available to all active subscribers on this date
  • rain will continue to support all existing active subscribers after 1 November 2018, but will not accept any new orders beyond this date"

That is not what MBB has said! This email says to 0600 not 1800 as has been my understanding. Have you clarified this with them?

Typical misunderstanding of 24hour clock structure, everybody knows it's 1800 except the typist at Vox

Well we assume so but companies are sometimes a little less reliable on these things than just a simple typo. I am always less willing to except that it is a typo, because for it to get through editing/review means a number of people are involved in the error.

From Webafrica: (includes 06:00 pm typo.)

We hope you've been enjoying your LTE at Home service.

You have been accessing the network on the RAIN double data deal (this was their opening special when RAIN LTE was released in 2017) but this double data promotion is coming to an end on the 30th of November 2018.

What this means: If you have been on an 85 GB + 85 GB package (170GB) then from the end of November the additional 85GB will fall away.

The Good News: Free off-peak Data
The good news is that from 1 December 2018 RAIN will be giving you free off-peak data which is equal to your allocated purchased data per month. In other words, if you have an 85GB package, you will receive an extra 85GB to use every month, which is available to you between 11:00 pm and 06:00 pm.

Switch to Cell C: First invoice Free
If the off-peak deal above doesn't appeal to you, you are welcome to switch to one of our LTE at Home packages on the Cell C network, before 30 November 2018, and we will cover your first invoice on your new Cell C package. NB: In order to take advantage of this Cell C deal you MUSTgo through your customer zone and click on "Switch to LTE".

Tired of having a data cap? Why not visit our ever-expanding Fibre map to find out if you can get uncapped Fibre, and never run out of data again!

Kind Regards,
Webafrica

Today I got the following from Afrihost in reply to my question;

"I trust you are well. We do apologise that you did not get any formal update on this matter, but as from the 1 December 2018 subscribers will receive off-peak data equalling their anytime allocation from 23:00 to 18:00 each day, along with their original anytime data allocation."

Not sure why Afrihost does not update customers formally as Vox and Webafrica have done. Kinda sloppy really.

Atleast you got something - the rest of us are yet to get any communication from them regarding the matter.

With cost cutting many companies that resell services don't have educated, qualified auditing of press releases

All I know is that Rain staff will be on holiday and won’t take sales calls. That’s why I’m a Telkom subscriber today.

So, I assume that once I have used up 85GB I have another 85GB to use between 11:00pm and 06:00PM.
But I won't have internet access from 6:00PM to 11:00PM for the rest of the month.

I've asked for clarification on this but got no feedback. I would assume you get metered in the hour you use and your usage is docked against the respective allocation (OOH or anytime), not anytime first and then when that runs out only OOH, which would mean the OOH is a bit of a gimmick.

But knowing how these things always have a twist you may be right!

I hope it is like that.

All we want is data to use between 6pm and 11pm - give us that and we will be good. Not much to ask for

I use as much data between 9am and 6pm as at night so this suits me just fine.
