Retrenchments at Rain

Mobile network operator Rain has retrenched dozens of employees as part of the transition of its Johannesburg offices from a headquarters into a regional branch, despite previously promising the change would not result in job losses.

The confirmation comes after a source with knowledge of the matter alleged that the company had "effectively retrenched over 100 employees" after they refused to relocate to the operator's new headquarters in Cape Town.

Not a smart move by Rain to move HQ to CT, there is a reason why all the networks HQ is in JHB/JHB border for Telkom

There's a lot of outsourcing and Consultent employment being given to people from other countries. Especially in Telecommunications. Not sure where South Africa's government stands regarding this. Even labour brokering or outsource employment that's supposed to cater for project based employment but ends up being continuous contract renewal process for year on year, just to abuse loopholes in labour law.

Thought this was a multi billion dollar company?
