Rain causes Telkom ADSL service disruptions and hampers repairs

I can see some of those techies scurrying for shelter at the slightest precipitation , especially on a Friday afternoon ;)

That's the difference with the mobile operators - their guys have gone out in snowstorms to get the service running

Depends on the person... I've seen Telkom techies scaling mountainsides covered in snow trying to repair microwave transmitters.

Well not according to the ex CellC CTO Ron. He was biatcing over a couple of drinks a few years back about how lazy South African techies are. His idea of a weekend was getting into his 4x4 and putting up a new "4G" tower and not sitting at home drinking beer in front of the braai.

Well the fault currently on my line was their own retarded technicians fault (before all the rain started). My wife seen the idiot up on the pole at the bottom of our garden on our neighbours side obviously connecting a new line or something and then boom, our line goes to hell. See that my modem has dropped from syncing at 4Mb to only syncing at 2Mb - phone Telkom up to get it moved up again and find out that our line has been crossed with our neighbours line and so they cannot move me back up to 4Mb until they fix that issue out.

That happened last month on the 26th of last month and still waiting for the knobs to sort it out.

bloody idjuts!!

Since the line between my house and the pole was replaced about two years ago I've had zero issues with rain affecting my ADSL

The rains affected a friend of mine.... the telkom line goes to this box, which has a wall cemented all around it, and it gets filled up with water whenever it rains....

Thank you to wireless(LTE) services are operational across all networks I use :)

Just a pity my land line isn't operational for the past 2months due to rain, always happens as water gets into the box :(

I'd imagine there is a difference between the people maintaining core infrastructure and those running ADSL complaints though.

Still impressive...climbing up microwave towers/locations is a feat in itself regardless of weather. Esp this kind: (Skip to 0:53)

In the good ol' days the platteland okes were flippin' dedicated. No such thing as working hours as they stayed in the same dorpie!

I could probably be okay until the point around 1:30 into the video. After that no fncking way! no matter how much you're paying me.
