Rain ready to challenge Vodacom and MTN's dominance

If I understand this correctly rain is outsourcing voice call feature to Vodacom network?

You can't call on their network at all, tested it. You are forced to download the raintalk app which is a VOIP app (same as Whatsapp calling). They call that VoLTE, which it is not
I guess this is just to comply with icasa spectrum regulations so the new 4G network is nothing new. I think roam deal is more like Vodacom and rain roll out continuous bands spectrum, remember they both got 700Mhz and 2600Mhz which could make sense to combine 40mhz in b28 while CA 2600mhz 40mhz together with 1800mhz, this might be the reason rain choose which router is supported to allow 3 CA

Is your phone VoLTE capable? Not all 4G phones are.

I don't think they actually have a strategy. They have been stagnant in the data space for a while. I eventually dropped them after a year as they were not really doing much to improve coverage. Now they want to take on established players with no plan on the table.
