Rain will be shaping LTE between 18:00 and 23:00

For me the whole Rain thing is not much of an issue as I have Telkom uncapped LTE @ R525 per month with a B618 that actually do carrier aggregation and give me like ~100Mbps anyways. Also these old uncapped simcard has a fair use of 300GB which is very generous considering I'm paying R525 per month.

Telkom can also be a hit and a miss but at least for the capped products it's not shaped at all.

I just keeping a Rain Mobile sim @ R250 p/m for a backup when telkom lets me down because it's Telkom and they usually do.

Telkom uncapped LTE right now during peak time with B618 no antenna.

You can always try out the prepaid LTE/LTE-A bundles as they cost exactly the same as contract. I would recommend investing in a B618 from Telkom as they work pretty damn good on their LTE-A network.

Sell me that B618 !!

Right now I'm getting the best speeds I've ever had on RAIN strangely.

Ping: 51ms
Download: 27.88Mbps
Upload: 2.16Mbps

I normally get about 10Mbps average during the day.

Haha NEVER. Was a tough month spending most of my disposable income to get that router. It's going no where!

This is right now, but if I download p2p it is ~100kbs and game patches take forever to download and ping is not stable like it used to be.

Well, the company's presser on launch did say that they would be evaluating network performance and tweaking as they go, so this shaping seems to be part of their process. I'm not sure if it's particularly useful or helpful to rain-fixed subscribers, but maybe they'll lift the restrictions on those customers soon.

IMO, they're probably seeing what the uptake is to plan ahead for network expansion, and to see the ratio of fixed versus mobile users to plan for bandwidth use during the day. We know these are separate networks, so there might be some unnecessary complexity in how they chose to manage it.

Teething issues and early adopter taxes aren't very nice to deal with.

Right now I am paying R350pm for a free LTE router and 50gb of data. It’s R530 for 100gb.

Also it’s a month to month so no contract

Mobile?

Never mind, I seem to be just outside coverage.

Nope fixed LTE. Why don’t you get this package(sim only deal) for a month. It’s only R200 bucks and the activation month is free. So you basically pay R200 for two months of data, oh and it’s 20gb pm.

Get it just to test the speeds etc and if it’s not for you cancel the contract or upgrade if your speeds are satisfactory to you

You pointing into Nahoon?
Best RSSI:-83dBm
Best SINR:3dB
Best RSRP:-111dBm
Best RSRQ:-12dB
Best DL Rate:386.83KBps

I have to fight through a few trees to get signal, I'll try mounting an antenna on the roof this weekend.

I was at approx 600KBps but yesterday that stopped, I think I'm being shaped.

Ah, my CELL_ID correlated to the one in Nahoon piggybacking off of Vodacom. I don't think the massive eyesore in Beacon Bay has Rain yet.
