Rain's big fall from grace - Here is what happened

Rain used to be a consumer champion with high customer satisfaction rates, but it has now been rated the worst service provider in South Africa with deteriorating network speeds.

This raises the question of what happened at the mobile operator and why online consumer platforms are littered with complaints from subscribers.

To understand Rain’s fall from grace, you have to go back to 2017 when Rain launched its first commercial LTE products in partnership with Internet Solutions.

“For the 5G network we do aim to achieve excellent network speeds, with our average consistently remaining over 200Mbps for customers on our premium package,” Roos said.

Might have been true December 2019, far from it present day. My average speeds are around 100Mbps.

Roos added that they have experienced network configuration issues which have impacted performance on the 5G network.

No. Your 5G offering is saturated and you have not expanded to meet demand, as such performance is taking a knock.

Maybe prioritise your customers over Vodacoms?

Well I use rain and I am happy. One good point is there is no 24 month contract to you can just leave. I have had to leave mtn and cellc because of bad performance. Being stuck in a 24 month contract is stupid
Don't all the networks offer month to month or PAYG options?

you get what you paid for,
due to our greedy landlord and her stupidity in not including Fibre infrastructure AND not allowing anything inside the gates.
RAIN as bad as it is is sometimes your ONLY option for reasonable internet at a fair price.

wouldn't knock them, as sometimes its your ONLY choice, due to other peoples bad decisions.

I must be extremely lucky then cause I've had reasonably decent experiences with Rain...

Im almost surprised Rain are trying to claim all of the spare capacity on their network.
Just this forum alone paints a dismal picture for them.

If I want any of mtn or vodacom good affordable data deals I need to lock in a 24 month contract.

Mtn wanted me to pay the 50% of the contract that was left per month on my data deal, so I just kept it give the sim to my sister to use in Bloem.

+1

And when finances got tight in the first months of lockdown, Rain was the only ISP to step up and give their struggling subscribers a payment holiday. Not so much corporate greed with this one.
