Rain's new 5G deals are much cheaper than Vodacom and MTN

I thought ICASA/ASA specifically ruled against using the word "unlimited" in your marketing, when the product is restricted in some form. You can instead say "uncapped"

Rain Unlimited Home 5G BasicUp to 25MbpsStreams throttled to 720p, VPN throttling

I'd rather pay a bit more and stream in 4k - not 720p ...

720p was like maybe okay 5 years ago, oof!
If MTN discontinue their 5mb service and move all their packages down a pricing level, there's no way Rain can compete with that.

So what are their VPN throttling policies? How is it throttled? Not that it matters to me as I'm on fibre and don't have coverage.. just interested. With most people working from home these days a lot of VPN traffic would be work related, not just torrenting and streaming.

Not that I have coverage, but I have wondered a time or two myself.

They throttle VPN's as everyone used them to get around the shaping :/

The deal breaker for me is CGNAT and the lack of ipv6

The RAIN SIM, I have has been lying on the bedside table for ages, still sealed. Will probably stay there till it annoys my wife and she tosses it, about all it is worth.

Pricing does not help if there is no coverage. I tried to get Rain when it was introduced but got no coverage in Bryanston. We tried the outside arial but it made no difference. The signal was like a phone- in connection. Be warned

Is it April Fools Day already?
What a joke rain is!!

but throttled how? cap speed to Xmbps? if so, what speed?
In my experience when I still had Rain, everything streaming including VPN was limited to around 5 mbps (Standard package). So that was pretty useless because if you had someone watching Netflix on the TV, someone watching Youtube on a PC and someone using a VPN, you only had 5 mbps combined for everything. They throttled you not per stream but everything combined at ~ 5mbps.

Rain 4G is garbage. Their 5G pricing is not too bad if you dont have access to Fibre. But I'd rather recommend getting Fibre installed, its just way more consistant. #CoolIdeasOP
