It is part of the joke. Afaik election days always been a public holiday.

Ramaphosa is simply acting like he achieved a new level of competency by somehow stating the obvious.
It is always declared in this manner regardless of who is president.

What's wrong with scheduling all elections to take place on April 27?

Oh, so we live in a dictatorship now ? Can the president also wish away poverty by decree ?

Each of the previous elections were a public holiday in order to vote, I see no reason why it should be news that the president declared election day a public holiday. Waste of everyones time and just trying to score browny points to make it a public article.

While we are on the topic since it seems this decree for Election day public holiday is such amazing work. What did Ramaphosa actually do over the last 2 years that improved anyones live in SA ? I wont hold my breath but give it a go.

Go moan at the journalists then. Can I be CC'd in your whine e-mail to them?

The electoral commission declares when the election will be held, they don't have the power to make it a public holiday.

I bet retailers hate weekends, all those people that shop, giving the retailers money, weekends should be done away with. Imagine how productive the economy will be with no weekends.

Does anyone know if the IEC publishes a list of candidates and their respective party's/affliations per ward?

Seems to me something that should exist, especially now that there are so many parties and even private candidates standing.
