Ramaphosa explains why government is scared of arresting Putin

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said a court order that would force him to commit to arresting Russian leader Vladimir Putin if he attends a BRICS summit in Johannesburg next month would be premature, and effecting such a ruling would be tantamount to a declaration of war.

The Democratic Alliance, South Africa’s main opposition party, approached the country’s High Court to compel the government to honour an International Criminal Court warrant issued against Putin that’s related to war crimes during the invasion of Ukraine.

Yup. The rest are scared and just needed a scapegoat

It's one thing to remain neutral, it's quite another to sit on the fence while accepting benefits from both sides and this quandary is a consequence of that. Taking G7 money and trade deals while also trying to be relevant as the small "s" in BRICs and honouring our liberation movements' historical ideological alliance with the old USSR is never going to work in the long run. In reality, I doubt we even have the capacity to suppress whatever security he would be travelling with.

We know that Ramaphosa is a weak leader who is averse to confrontation and seeks consensus on every matter, so I predict that his default position on this is to do nothing, let it happen, and it will just be too bad if we then have to deal with the consequences of possible sanctions and cancelled trade agreements.

We are never going to say no to anyone's money, we are poor and we need the money, but we are also not going to entertain idle threats, if anyone in the G7 feels aggrieved by our friendship with Putin they know what to do.

Yep, make us even poorer.

Yep, make us even poorer.
Now all they need to do is to get on with, they really don't need to accuse us of things like the Americans, it's their money to do with as they please, just take all of it and give it to Kenya.

Good plan but unworkable. That leaves nothing for the government to steal.

No-one's going to war because Mr Hot Air isn't arresting anyone
