President Cyril Ramaphosa, Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Minister of the Department of Trade and Industry Ebrahim Patel broke ground in honour of the launch of the Tshwane Automotive Hub at the Ford Motor Company in Silverton, Pretoria.

Ford is the anchor tenant of the new hub, which hopes to create in excess of 5,000 jobs. The hub was created following the SA Investment Conference held last year, and is linked to government’s Automotive Master Development Plan 2035.

The launch forms part of the Tshwane Automotive City (TAC) project, which aims to transform the city into an automotive production powerhouse, with the city boasting the Ford plant alongside plants for BMW, Nissan/Renault, and Tata.

TAC hopes to attract new automobile manufacturers to Tshwane.

There are 7 million unemployed people. This won’t make any difference.

An initiative like this isn't going to solve SA's unemployment challenges, but it will go a long way to people who are going to benefit from it.

A long journey starts with a single step ... Let's try and be positive about this - 5000 jobs equates to 20 000 mouths being fed. A piss in the bucket at this stage, but something none the less.

Well, it'll make a difference to the R5000 who get jobs.
For them. For a while yes. But we’re pretty much doing everything politically and ideologically that will destroy far more jobs than that monthly. Sorry to be negative, but that’s just the reality of a corrupt socialist state.

It also make a difference to you my Grinch, less entitled people to annoy you demanding things for free. That 5000 is going to be taxed and feel what you have been feeling for years.

Now look me in the eye and tell me that does not make you feel better.

remember that "may" provide 5k jobs.

honestly, who will open a factory there?
Similar companies to the one that has a factory there that has been operating for decades?

if "there" has companies have been operating for decades, then how the "hub" will create thousands of jobs?

if that will "create" thousands of jobs, so I assume there has "nothing" now, make sense?

A piss in the face is more like it, the ONLY reason an international automotive manufacturer will have a local presence is the tax-payer raping scheme that is MIDP / APDP / whatever they choose to name it next.

The nett result? Car buyers in South Africa get rammed hard, high and dry, effectively paying the price for this. How many people would willingly pay 20% extra for a new car in order to "create" 5000 jobs?

People are willing to pay more even if there aren't any jobs created, I don't think they will mind if jobs are created In the process.
