Ramaphosa signs Internet censorship bill

We a nation with some cutting edge 1st world laws. Seems a bit ironic given we cannot even promote or enforce the most basic of laws.

Yay for Dominic. Need more people like him.

Going forward, we can expect more badly-written laws to be signed in.

Hate speech: The bill states that any person who knowingly distributes in any medium, including the internet and social media any film, game or publication which amounts to propaganda for war, incites imminent violence, or advocates hate speech, shall be guilty of an offence. This includes a possible fine not exceeding R150,000 and/or imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years;

Sooooo I can get a fine if I say something like "I would pay good money for someone to kick our president in the balls until said kicker fractures his foot"?

Black hate speech will be treated more leniently of course because apartheid.

Uh-huh sure. Politicians are immune of course :rolleyes:

In regards to hate speech and racism against whites, having black skin is like winning the Survivor immunity idol.

so why weren't we one of the countries protesting authoritarianism?

Revenge porn:
Under the bill, any person who knowingly distributes private sexual photographs and films without prior consent and with intention to cause the said individual harm shall be guilty of an offence and liable upon conviction. This includes a possible fine not exceeding R150,000 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years and/or to both a fine and imprisonment not exceeding two years. Where the individual is identified or identifiable in said photographs and films, this punishment rises to a R300,000 fine and/or imprisonment not exceeding four years;

So how would the person be caused harm if he/she was not identifiable? Very badly written indeed.

Nevermind the ISP part. Will any SA ISP's offer a VPN service as well? Will it be possible to run an effective VPN service from SA with this legislation?

So if the missus wants to send me a nudie she has to get my permission first ?

If hereby give consent to all women who in future may wish to send private sexual photographs and films.
