Good, about time something gets done. I assume they turned off the mini substations, so they residents can't reconnect themselves?
It would affect those who are paying, so I doubt they would.

What pleases me is that this shows some level of independence that Eskom now has, in the good old days they would have been forbidden from disconnecting them after such a disastrous election.

That’s a fair point. I recall those days where Eskom were not allowed to disconnect.

Progress. Even if very small.

I still want to know if the residents can just reconnect themselves though.

Yes they can, obviously assuming that's the regular cutting of electricity when you did not pay.

Well.... so much for the promise of free electricity, free water, free houses....
Free electricity is being provided.
Free houses are provided.
Free water is provided.

Anything else?

Did they ever do such a promise? It sounds very silly to give free things to people who already have them.

This guy seems to think so. So do I.

“The ANC promised us free electricity”

The man, who refused to be named, said the late former president Nelson Mandela’s promise of a better South Africa with free education, free electricity, free water and sanitation had not been realised.

Good news, the ANC has kept its promise, free electricity is available. He must just present himself to his nearest Eskom office, all shall be revealed when he gets there.

I bet you there are tonight 700 Soweto homes who will not agree with you. And me neither.

Well, you know how these people are, gee hulle 'n hand en hulle vra vir die hele arm.

The Great Liberation Movement is a victim of its own good intentions.

Yeah well, do not make promises you do not intend keeping. The hand and arm idea is mere speculation. Perhaps they would have been happy with a free house, free water, free electricity, free education, free healthcare and a free monthly grant payment.

I blame the National Party, they were not supposed to provide them with electricity, the cheek and entitlement stems from there, we wouldn't have this problem if they got electricity in 94 like everybody else.

I know a woman, with a normal eskom point, first time eskom switch off just the switch. She switch it back on. Then they disconnect the wire, she reconnect it. Then they remove all the power, she went to the police and report the theft.
Now she use gas and candles.
