So one of 3 transformers in a substation in randburg on Hans schoeman street let out the magic smoke yesterday with the result that large areas of randburg are constrained for supply.
So now they're going to switch areas off and on without any apparent pattern or warning to prevent the sub overloading again.

A major substation in Hurlingham also blew on Friday, and the power is more often off than on in Northriding these days

Is it really so difficult to provide a stable service?

It requires a long term commitment, proper resourcing to update ageing equipment and adequate supervision to implement a proper maintenance programme.

When transformers start to pop off it's quite likely the time to act passed some time ago

Something the cANCer doesn't give a toss about...

They keep this sort of thing a secret... because you know how it is with the ANC... don't admit failure.... at all costs.

City Power is currently conducting load shifting in the Randburg area due to a technical problem with an Eskom transformer which feeds to City Power.

This results in overload problems on the remaining Eskom transformer. Therefore, to prevent a total blackout of the Randburg substation, City Power is forced to rotate customers until Eskom resolves the transformer malfunction.

Eskom technicians are on site and working around the clock to restore the transformer that supplies power to the Randburg substations. The following areas will be affected by load rotation:
• Randpark Ridge Ext 4/5
• Ruiterhof
• Ferndale
• Fontainebleau
• Malanshof
• Blairgowrie
• Moret
• Klipfontein

City Power apologises for the inconvenience caused to customers affected by outages.

Customers experiencing loss of power can call the City of Johannesburg call centre at 0860 562 874 or log a call on the City Power website www.citypower.co.za by clicking on “Fault Logging”.

This can take several days... so be prepared.

Has anyone deciphered what Load Rotation or Load Shifting means - who is off when?

Or is it simply a case of you're ****ed for the foreseeable future.
