Rapist's bail shocker

Indeed. Some use emotional bunny-hugging PC-ness, others are practical in solving the problem. If your kitchen is infested with cockroaches, you spray them, you don’t put-out food and encourage them.

Just for the record then, you believe that the South African justice system (and by proxy the taxpayer) is capable of taking on the responsibility of the death penalty?

Just for the record then, morally I have no problem with the South African justice system (and by proxy the taxpayer) taking on the responsibility of the death penalty (in fact, it’s probably necessary).

The reservations I have (and they are severe) are related to the gross corruption and incompetence of the justice system and the extreme likelihood that it would be used for party political ends. “Toe our line or we will frame and kill you”.

Sure, that is obvious by your initial stance.

This, aside from my general moral issue regarding the death penalty, is my major area of concern. It is because of this that I talk about the practicalities of doing such a thing in the South African context.

It's one thing saying the death penalty should be carried out, it's another trusting the authorities with that sort of power. I definitely don't.

I don’t understand this. All my posts have been unambiguous and an attempt to be ‘obvious’. I am glad I am breaking through.

You are attempting to adopt the moral high ground. This may be laudable in a 1st world country. TIA and any show of restraint or manners is interpreted as weakness. An argument could be made that people are pissed-off at having their evolution interrupted and threatened by arbitrary savagery and being forced to revert to an earlier phase of savagery and barbarism to solve the problem. They are angry and want to hit something. I know how they feel.

Exactly, I was simply saying that your viewpoint has been clear from the beginning.

I am not taking the moral high ground. I am not saying that people who support the death penalty are evil. I am simply stating my own personal feeling feeling regarding the matter morally and highlighting the practical difficulty of carrying out the death penalty.
