Lovely. Again the DTM mags.

This is my old time fav fast Ford model...the limited; not for SA; Focus RS500 from 2011.

"Making its global debut at the 2010 Leipzig Motor Show in Germany on April 9, 2010, the new model has been given the RS500 designation to highlight its strictly-limited production run of 500 individually-numbered vehicles, all of which will be offered for customers to purchase.

The new Ford Focus RS500 features a muscular 350 PS 2.5-litre 5-cylinder engine, which generates 15 per cent more power than the standard Focus RS and delivers truly exhilarating performance."

The 2.5L 5-pot pumped to 260kw & 460nm...that's A45 territory!

Beautiful. Pity that this would just be "another Focus" to many people, like Rouxenator. :D

But it is just a Focus...

I would like the opinions of my friends FiestaST and Drifter on this. You chaps care to comment? (I understand if you don't want to, I often feel the same way being confronted by nonsense. :D)

There is no such thing as just another Ford. All Fords are nice, those with ST and RS badges even more so. Remember these are quality motors designed in Cologne, Germany.

Seeing as you're just playing the fool, and acknowledge the desirable rarer variants of vehicle models, ColinR has some serious explaining to do as to what his problem is. :D

I disagree with Colin & his "just a Focus/Golf" comment.

These equivalent performance cars are often not built in the same production line as the more mainstream models & in the case of Renaultsport a different factory altogether. The engineering team behind these alter many components not just "upping the boost"...many other parts are reworked & strengthen & then of course comes the all important testing...the fav of which is the 'Ring.

Now we all know from this "rare cars" thread that a rare car can be rather subjective thing

The mainstream top performance models like the G6 & G7 GTI; OPC; Focus ST are clearly common but the actual rare ones & ones that count as rare are the ones with very limited production numbers thereby guaranteeing them a certain level of exclusivity.

Case in point on SA at least is the Focus RS & Renaultsport Megane Trophy models.

Other cars like Golf R32 are not strictly limited in that since but are not nearly as common as a normal G5/G6/G7 GTI.

Another "rare" hot hatch I can think of the is S1...I have yet to see one! Besides its so bloody expensive for its size.

Anything VAG can go through as just another. While their sales volume may be a good thing for some, for others is is a negative point. So I completely get the just another Golf thing. VAG designs are also very slow to evolve to the point where it is downright lazy. This is well publicised throughout the motoring journalism realm.

Ford not so much. They have upped their game on all fronts. A decade ago the Ranger was a worthy contender, now it is a class leader. Same goes for all their other cars - and that is what draws some people to a brand. They don't want what is popular, they want something that is better yet not so common.

Ford makes the second most common hatchbacks after all the VWs and Audis. So that RS500 is a badged RS, which is a badged ST, which is a Focus.

At the end of the day it's still just an overpriced hatchback and you're better off getting a proper RWD sports car for the same money...

The RS is a different breed to the normal ST. It has the added Revo Knuckle to help with traction, different styling. This example is the RS500, which only came in matt black. We never got the RS500 in SA. Ford SA only brought in 60 Focus RS MKII to SA, so avery rare car here.

It has a different clutch and turbo setup to the normal ST as well, and a myriad off other smaller things, from the PAS cooler, ECU cover to the Recaro seats.
