WISP: www.skytec.co.za

Package: 512k wireless true uncapped (testing done on father in-law's 384k line below)

5 – Excellent (much better than expected)

Speed: 5 / 5
Stability: 5 / 5
Reliability: 5 / 5
Customer service: 5 / 5
Value for money: 4.5 / 5 (On the 512k package)

Area of use:
Amanzimtoti

Use of line:
online gaming, downloading large files, youtube, browsing.

What the ISP can do to make me happier:
Been waiting for the ISP to increase their speed for the 512k package for over a year now. The 256k users got punched up to 384k (which actually runs higher than normal...see speedtest below), and their pricing is almost half of the 512k users so the ISP needs to do something to strengthen the top packages as the price to speed ratio benefits the 384k users by a huge margin.

Other facts:
The package speed remains constant 24/7 regardless of the day or hour at which you run it. There is no shaping, throttling etc. Perfect WISP.

As for being a customer....the ISP makes you feel like a true customer and not just another number. Most ISP's should take note of this.

I use Telkom 384adsl at home in Pretoria East, Moreleta Park. It's not as fast as 3G/HSDPA, but way more reliable and consistent. I had Vodacom 3G/HSDPA account last year in the same area and I kept losing the signal. I also use MTN 3G/HSDPA for work purposes but have the same issue.

I did try Telkom's 1MB line when it was on promotion and that was more than sufficient for my home needs. Only using 384kb due to cost constraints but highly recommend 1MB.

Thanks

Why is there no thread for Telkom WiMAX 512kbps?

Oh well, I must be the only one using Telkom's WiMAX, so I'll just post here.

Throughput is always consistent at about 55-60kbps.
Latency is the same as for a standard ADSL line.
Downtime I've experienced since I got the service in 2006: 10 hours

Only thing I wish Telkom would do: Offer a faster WiMAX option as opposed to just the current 512kbps, or alternatively start offering ADSL in my area.

Hi, I use Vodacom Broadband in my house through Netgear N3000 wireless router and Mtn Broadband in my Samsung galaxy tab, I love them both, they offer such a great way to connect to the internet. I live in Cape area, Northern suburbs and my speed is always fast, I am more than happy with them both!!!! Keep it up guys!!!!!
Ps, maybe one thing, wish the prices per mb will drop soon, I don't have line of sight for any of the wireless service providers in my area. So broadband is my only option, kind of expensive, but I am very happy with it.

have a Telkom 4 MB ADSL (randburg). have problems with the line every 2 months or so when it goes down. turnaround time to fix approx day....but generally the connection is good and a connection around 400 kps. would be great when they upgrade to 10 mb lines..but doubt that would happen any time soon.

I have a 4 meg line and had absolutely no down time at all. Very happy with the speed, but would like the exchange near me to be upgraded to 10 megs.

I use the Cell C 5 Gig HSPA per month. It used to be very unstable and slow. I upgraded the modem and purchased an Antenna which I mounted to my roof. Now it is super fast. I live in Johannesburg. (Rooseveld Park). The Antenna is pointed towards the Rosebank tower.
