Hi

Thought it would be a nice to get a idea of what various routers pro's and con's are from a opinion of their owners. I'll start

-----------------------------------
Microcom DeskPorte Router 100

Pro's
Supports bridge and router mode running simultaniously
Interface easy to navigate

Con's
1 ethernet port
Microcom doesnt even have any record of existance (spose because its old)
Setting up port forwarding and multiple internet accounts is a pain.
4mbit max speed

Would I reccomend it ?
For the price that it can be gotten at, (R400-500) yes.
-----------------------------------
2 Year old Marconi 1 Port

Pro's
It handles poor lines better (where my microcom couldnt sync it did but it automatically lowered speed to 3400 from 4096, later the line was stable enough for my microcom to handle it 100%)

Con's
Terrible Interface
1 Ethernet Port
Limited Options

Would I reccomend it ?
Well I wouldnt throw one away if you already had one, but otherwise no.

Does anybody know what is the difference between the Billion 7202GR2 and the Billion 7300G is. Has the 7202GR2 been discontinued? Seems like nobody has any stock but they stock the 7300G
Thanks

There isn't actualy a difference in the software or functionality between the 7300G and the 7202GR2. The 7300xx models and all the other models that is is being released is eco friendly, it abides by the new laws that was brought out by Europe.

Hope it helps. ;)

I used like 4 different make modems so far, and this was my experience:

Router1: SMC7904BRA
Pros:
+ Probably the coolest router I ever had
+ You can use Router mode and Bridge mode simultaneously (no other router can do this) meaning at the same time it routes and share the internet, another pc can also make a pppoe connection, great for sharing a capped IS account and only connect from windows with a uncapped account to quickly download something international
Cons:
- I had 2, both stopped syncing after 9 months, warrenty became outdated, I got mad and tried others.

Router2: Billion 1 port something modem only (i think Billion 5102S)
Pros:
+ This thing sync no matter how bad the line, a good backup modem and was really cheap.
Cons:
- no interface, no routing, its a perma bridged modem

Router3: Planet something
Pros:
(none, i hated it)

Cons:
- expensive
- when you use the web interface the internet lag to the 1st hop for 1300-3000ms or even times out, like wtf.
- i just hated this modem with everything.
- used for like 30mins, threw it back in its box, not even worth a backup modem.

Router4: Netgear DG834G (with wireless)
Pros:
+ works like a dream
+ syncs really easy
+ awesome interface
+ have some hidden features (eg. to get bridge mode)
+ love the wireless and the way you can control the access to it

Cons:
- cant do routing and bridged mode simultaneaouly like SMC =(

Netgear is the best modem ever after SMC, SMC just lacked in the fact that it stopped routing, I even had 2 different versions of it, will miss it for a long time to come.

That's a nice feature to have - fortunately mine still works after a year. :)

D-link 504T with latest firmware.

Pro's:
Firmware updates every 6-12months so far, Domain & website access control, VPN pass-thru & handling, dynamic DNS update, bridge mode + router mode concurrently :p, virtual server/port forwarding, routing paths, multiple PPPoE sessions possible(tho not on same vpi+vci.. i need to email them and ask em to make it so), Config not accessable from outside LAN except if required and then by ssh, telnet or http etc. ADSL 2+, DMZ, Bridge filtering to pppoe session etc, firewall, UPnP and rip tho i doubt i'd ever use rip.

Con:
No wireless module on mine :/, can't have two PPPoE connections on same vpi and vci, No Quality of service thingy that more expensive ones have.

I'll add more, if i see it. but doing this from memory.
