* Tried to update the phone software with the official release downloaded from the Motorola website (www.motorola.com/update - go through the pages and select MOTODEFY). The software says that the phone is not upgradebale. Did RBM change the software that now causes this? If I cannot upgrade the software, then I'm rooting the phone to load the latest Android 2.3.

OH....and I also have the MMS problem. I managed to set it up and it workded for 3 MMS's...then it started just coming up with a "Message not Retrieved" error. I click on dlownload and it keeps on saying the same thing. I just told everyone to send me pics with WhatsApp rather. If you dont have a phone that supports WhatsApp....then you dont deserve to send me pics anyway! :)

The deals are great but from what I'm reading here the service levels are unbearable. Any thoughts?

man am i glad i stumbled upon this thread ! my upgrade was due in march already and i was waiting to cancel my contract and take up the RBM deals ! now after reading this thread will have to think long and hard if its really worth all the issues people are having, the 500mb is hard to overlook but i really dont like fighting constantly to get things working the way it should be.

hopefully there will be some better alternatives before my contract is up in july

Nothing wrong with the Contract and the Defy is a great phone. I will say that these seem to be minor issues which should be easily resolved, not too sure what is taking so long.

I have to agree with VonPickle - most of the issues are minor and can be worked around. This is easily the best value-for-money contract I've seen.

Are there any issues with dropped calls/internet/delayed sms like on Virgin?

I have found that calls take a while to connect, but then I do live in Margate...Not a whole lot going on down here :)

Otherwise no issues.

My free minutes also did carry over this month. Still not showing sms balance. I have loaded GoSMS on my Defy and I see it has a message counter I can use in the meanwhile to track sms's sent. Just need to remember to reset it every 1st of the month.

Also have an issue that while making longer phone calls it drops the call. May be a Vodacom roaming issue...

For those having trouble with mms, a work around that may work, especially when roaming on Vodacom, is to change your APN in the mms settings from "mms' to "mobile.redbullmobile.co.za" It uses your bundle when you download mms's, but I find this the only way to send and recieve mms's for now.

What happened to the RBM Motorolla deal? I was going to get the phone and the deal doesn't seem to be on any more, according to CellC's website

I am up for a new contract but the only 2 people I know with Cell C suffer from dropped calls and a loss of reception. They sometimes check their phone and suddenly have 4 new voice messages as dead spots are a common occurrence.

What have all you experiences been like? Dead spots? Dropped calls? I really want this deal but my Vodacom contract although expensive works so smooth...

I moved from Vodacom for this contract, no regrets. No issues other than those dicussed in this forum. Looks like 2.2 is available on the Motorola website now too.

link please?

I think I found it :) I dont think the RBM Defy's accepts this update though. Think Cell C locked the phones so we cant update it ourselves. Well, that is what it sounded like from another peeps post a bit back in this thread.

It does seem that way. I loaded a custom ROM on my Defy within the first week, running Android 2.2 and overclocking to 1Ghz, better than waiting.
