Don't know of this stigma, saw a guy buy quite a large 3D TV with this Card at Dion Wired
He looked pretty chuffed - definitely not embarrassed. But then again I'm not a psychologist.

Anyway, I cancelled the application so its all good. Wont deal with them again, due to bad service

I'm not saying high-income earners can't use it, but the whole RCS product line is geared for people who cannot access normal lines of credit through a normal bank. RCS is a micro-lender, and they have the ethics, interest rates and charges to match. If you can get a normal credit card through a normal bank, there is no reason whatsoever to get an RCS card. You will definitely pay higher interest rates, higher admin charges and generally get ripped off using an RCS card than you would from your own bank.

It's not an assumption, it's fact. RCS cards are for people who cannot get credit cards either due to low-income or a tarnished credit history (which I guess is their one similarity to store cards). Personally I would be embarrassed to be seen with an RCS card. There is definitely a stigma attached to it.

RCS cater to a wide spectrum of people, LSM 6 to 10.

So your generalisation is way off.

Reason I know this is that They are one of our clients.

I cannot believe what I experienced today. I applied for a RCS card this weekend, and today i get a "PLEASE CALL ME" type message (please call RCS on 0861729727 to finalize your RCS application) to phone back RCS. Where in your life have you seen a joke like this?????

Do you know who sends SMS's like that? Criminals who send SMS's to say you have won money in a Nokia promotion. Not professional companies.

And worse, I phone back 3 times - everytime they are "experiencing unusually high call volumes".

Tell me RCS, why dont you employ more staff to handle the call centre? This is an ongoing problem - it is not unusually high - you are as per usual understaffed.

Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable.

Application withdrawn - go stuff yourself RCS.

You dodged a bullet there. RCS are little more than organised loan sharks.

While I'm glad I'm not a customer, its quite shocking to see how big they are.
Either they're doing something right or there is very little competition in this sector.

They have big names in their stable
Makro,
Dion Wired
went to the biggest music shop in WC this weekend - saw RCS applications being handed out there.

"RCS partners with over 400 retail brands, offering you the ability to shop at 15,000 stores around South Africa - from fashion to furniture, automotive to the latest electronics, building supplies to books, it's all yours with a single card."

LOL if they look well off AND have an RCS card it just means that they owe more on their RCS card than the poorer looking person with an RCS card :D

Store cards are also for poor people. Think about it, there is no good reason to get a store card from a store if you can get a normal credit card from your bank. Store cards have higher interest rates and higher admin fees than credit cards. Again, like RCS, they are geared towards people who would not normally qualify for credit from banks.

I'm not a big fan of RCS either, I have their card, basically used it to install the sound system in my car and well, that is probably the last time I will use that card, I plan to cut it up as soon as I've paid it off.

The staff at RCS are a joke, you call them and it's basically "broken telephone" with them, this person can't help you, speak to X, speak to Y, speak to Z. Stuff it.
It's like the Incredible Connection card - they all useless!
